The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a 1975 British musical horror comedy/rock opera film that parodies science fiction and B-movie horror films.[1] It was directed by Jim Sharman. The film is an adaptation of the British musical stage production The Rocky Horror Show. Richard O'Brien, author of the stage show,[2] was assisted by Sharman in writing the screenplay. The film introduces Tim Curry and features Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick along with cast members from the original Kings Road production of the play first performed in the Theatre Upstairs at the Royal Court Theatre in 1973.
Still in limited release 35 years after its premiere, it has the longest-running theatrical release in film history.[3][4] The film is considered a cult classic.[5] It gained notoriety as a midnight movie in 1977 when audiences began participating with the film in theaters across the United States. Rocky Horror is the first film from a major studio, such as 20th Century Fox, to be in the midnight movie market.[6] Widely known by mainstream audiences, it has a large international following and is one of the most well known and financially successful midnight movies of all time.[7] In 2005, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

Wouldn't you like to see something strange?
Come with us and you will see
This, our town of Halloween
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night
This is Halloween, everybody make a scream
Trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright
In this town of Halloween
I am the one hiding under your bed
Teeth grown sharp and eyes glowing red
I am the one hiding under your stairs
Fingers like snakes and spiders in my hair
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song
In this town, don't we love it now?
Everybody's waiting for the next surprise
Round that corner, man hiding in the trash can
Something's waiting now to pounce, and how you'll scream
This is Halloween
Red 'n' black, slimy green
Aren't you scared?
Well, that's just fine
Say it once, say it twice
Take the chance and roll the dice
Ride with the moon in the dead of night
Everybody scream, everybody scream
In our town of Halloween
I am the clown with the tear-away face
Here in a flash and gone without a trace
I am the "who" when you call, "Who's there?"
I am the wind blowing through your hair
I am the shadow on the moon at night
Filling your dreams to the brim with fright
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! (Halloween, Halloween)
Tender lumplings everywhere
Life's no fun without a good scare
That's our job, but we're not mean
In our town of Halloween
In this town
Don't we love it now?
Everyone's waiting for the next surprise
Skeleton Jack might catch you in the back
And scream like a banshee
Make you jump out of your skin
This is Halloween, everybody scream
Won't ya please make way for a very special guy
Our man jack is king of the pumpkin patch
Everyone hail to the Pumpkin King
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song
The lyrics to Hairy & Scary Creatures' "This Is Halloween" describe the spooky atmosphere of Halloween in the town that the song's narrator is from. The song encourages listeners of all ages to observe what is typically a scary holiday, promising odd sights and events that could surprise even longtime residents. The song emphasizes pumpkins, which apparently scream during the night, and features trick-or-treaters who might cause their neighbors to die of fright. The town seems to be crawling with various Halloween creatures, such as a person with sharp teeth and glowing eyes hiding under people's beds or a character with snakes for fingers and spiders in their hair hiding under the stairs. The song takes on a sense of playfulness despite the scary setting, with the line "Aren't you scared? Well, that's just fine."
The song highlights the idea of fun, harmless scares as part of the Halloween tradition. The singer presents themselves as a number of different Halloween creatures, including the clown with the tear-away face and the wind blowing through people's hair. Each of these characters appears in the song to evoke a different element of Halloween. However, the song's most significant figure is Skeleton Jack, the Pumpkin King who dominates the town with his Halloween spirit. By hailing "to the Pumpkin King," listeners can envision a larger-than-life figure who represents the holiday and the festivities it brings.
