Prélude
Hal and the Big 5 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If you hear
A song in blue
Like a flower crying
For the dew
That was my heart serenading you
My prelude to a kiss

If you hear a song that grows
From my tender sentimental woes
That was my heart trying to compose
A prelude to a kiss

Though it's just a simple melody
With nothing fancy
Nothing much
You could turn it to a symphony
A Shubert tune with a Gershwin touch

Oh how my love song gently cries
For the tenderness within your eyes
My love is a prelude that never dies
A prelude to a kiss

Though it's just a simple melody
With nothing fancy
Nothing much
You could turn it to a symphony
A Shubert tune with a Gershwin touch

Oh how my love song so gently cries
For the tenderness within your eyes

My love is a prelude that never dies
A prelude to a kiss

Overall Meaning

“Prelude to a Kiss” by Hal and the Big 5 is a romantic ballad that speaks about the songwriter’s love and longing for someone special. The lyrics convey the emotions of a heart that's full of tender sentiments of love and affection. The song divides itself into two parts, the first starts with the line "If you hear a song in blue" indicating the songwriter's desire to serenade their lover with a romantic melody. The lyrics also mention that the songwriter wishes for their lover to understand the depth of their affection, as they compare it to a flower crying for dew. The second part of the song delves deeper into the songwriter's emotions and how difficult it is for him to compose something that would truly express his love for his lover. The lyrics mention that the song is simple, yet it holds an emotional depth that could be turned into a symphony.

The song has a melodic and melancholic tone that adds to the overall theme of the song. The repetitive use of the word "prelude" helps create a musical metaphor that signifies the beginning of a love story that is yet to be realized. The imagery of the melody crying for the dew and the flower is used to evoke emotions of longing and a desire for something that is missing.

I don't think there's hate at all. I think it's just kinda regular so its overlooked. Doesn't help that so many people are overly infatuated with ek/eg/integras/s2k

@robertstone9988

Truth

@turbo350able

Not regular at all lmao

@ryanpowell1428

I don't know a single person who hates the prelude matter of fact only the opposite is a beloved car amongst my friends and fam is definitely overlooked 👍

@LOVE-VIBES-X-PROJECT-CARS

@@turbo350able what I mean is regular to other Honda coupes offered at the time. I mean compared to the civic, crx, integra, del sol, accord, and s2k the prelude was just another fwd Honda. Not to mention the Acura legend and nsx

@kevinandrew_

Yeah I think overlooked is more accurate than hated. For whatever reason, they never caught on as much as other Hondas, even though the later preludes came with more power stock than any form of civic from that era ever did.

I've had my 5th gen for 18 years. Engine is still exciting. Some other parts need work but it's just so fun. And the Prelude has a more elegant look than a Civic

@Jac735

Real talk and civics are mad overrated I had a 98 civic and I got tired of it it lasted me 10 years but I was getting bored of it at the same time it's better to have rare cars or cars you barely see modified

@RideRevival_Outdoor

@SvetGolovkin1462
