I Like It Heavy
Halestorm Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Some like beautiful, perfect and pretty
I see the good in the bad and the ugly
I need the volume one louder than ten
I put the pedal to the metal, needle into the red
If the windows ain't shaking
Making my heart race
If I can't feel it in my chest
I'm in the wrong damn place!

I got a demon in my soul and a voice in my head
It's saying go, go, go! I can sleep when I'm dead
There's a sonic revelation bringing me to my knees
And there's a man down below that needs my sympathy
I got a ringing in my ears getting ready to burst
Screaming "hallelujah, motherfucker, take me to church"

I like it louder than the boom
Of a big bass drum
I need it harder than the sound
Of a guitar grunge
I love to crank it up
Make it thump
And evil to the core
Headbanging in the pit
And throwing my horns
And just like old school
Sabbath, Zeppelin and Lemmy
I need to drop it down low
And make it heavy
I like it heavy, wow-oh
I like it heavy, wow-oh

I ride the lightning, roll with the thunder
I'm going down, down, down with my sisters and brothers
I fell in love with their darkest parts
Stand on the side of the wild at heart
I plucked the feather off a crow so I could fly
Since I was thirteen years old, I've had my fist to the sky

I like it louder than the boom
Of a big bass drum
I need it harder than the sound
Of a guitar grunge
I love to crank it up
Make it thump
And evil to the core
Headbanging in the pit
And throwing my horns
And just like old school
Sabbath, Zeppelin and Lemmy
I need to drop it down low
And make it heavy
I like it heavy, wow-oh
I like it heavy, wow-oh

I like it, I like it, I like it heavy
I like it, I like it, I like it heavy
I like it, I like it, I like it heavy
I like it, I like it, I like it heavy

Some like beautiful, perfect and pretty
I see the good in the bad and the ugly

I like it heavy, wow-oh
I like it heavy, wow-oh

I like it, I like it, I like it heavy
I like it, I like it, I like it heavy
I like it, I like it, I like it heavy
I like it, I like it, I like it heavy

Take me home tonight, I'd do anything with you
Buy a bottle of whiskey, we'll get matching tattoos
Tell me that you love me, oh, let me drive your car
We can sit to morning light, just countin' every stars
'Cause if there's a Hell, I'll meet you there
And if there's a Heaven, they're serving beer
And if you're an angel then, I must be high
Oh, if there's a church, it's rock 'n roll
If there's a devil, I sold my soul
And it's alright whatever we do tonight

'Cause if there's a God dammit, she won't mind
If there's a God, baby, she won't mind

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "I Like it Heavy" by Halestorm express a true love for heavy music and the lifestyle that comes with it. The song is an anthem for those who like their music louder than anything else and embrace the dark side of life. The verses start with a description of the singer's preference for the raw and unapologetic nature of heavy music as opposed to conventional notions of beauty and perfection. The intensity of the music is what makes the singer feel alive, and if the windows aren't shaking and their heart isn't racing, then it's the wrong place to be.

The second verse talks about how the music affects the singer on a deeper level. The lyrics express the connection between the heavy music and the inner turmoil of the soul. The singer speaks of a "demon in my soul" and a "voice in my head," adding to the sense that heavy music is a way of dealing with one's inner demons. It is here that the singer alludes to the religious symbolism of heavy music, with a "sonic revelation bringing me to my knees" and "screaming "hallelujah, motherfucker, take me to church."

The chorus is a full-on celebration of heavy music. The singer talks of the need for the music to be louder, harder, and more evil, embracing the headbanging lifestyle of the mosh pit. The bridge adds a new dimension to the song, presenting heavy music as the perfect escape and release from the mundane horrors of life. In the end, the song is a testament to the power of heavy music and its ability to provide solace and excitement to those who embrace it.

The ending of this song touches me. As somebody who just in general has been going through shit, music like this reminds me what I love in this world and keeps me going. No matter what I lose in life, I will always have music to heal my soul. When I forget what it means to be happy I turn to music like this and that’s reason enough for me to keep on keeping on.

@Scatpack21
