All By Myself
Half Cocked Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tried to pull tried to squeeze just to get through it
Tried to crawl on my knees, but I just wouldn't fit
Well, I got no celebration
cause I've lost my invitation
I made my first reservation, but have no where to sit
Well I, live, All By Myself
And I, I can think All By Myself
Try to walk try to run just to catch up to you
Tried to steal what you've done just to end up like you
But I've got no motivation
cause I've lost my inspiration
That's all right, you're too tight, your size just wouldn't do
And I, live, All By Myself
I, I can think All By Myself
I can breath All By Myself
And I, live, All By Myself
I, I can think All By Myself

I can breath All By Myself
I, I will leave All By Myself

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "All by Myself" by Half Cocked convey a sense of loneliness and frustration experienced by the singer, who seems to be chasing after somebody else's success and yet failing every time. The opening lines of the song talk about the singer's failed attempts to break through, literally and metaphorically. He has tried everything possible, including crawling on his knees, but nothing worked out for him. The frustration is evident in the lyrics when he says, "Tried to steal what you've done just to end up like you," as if he was trying to mimic somebody else's success to no avail. The singer's yearning to belong is beautifully captured in the line, "I made my first reservation but have nowhere to sit," highlighting the fact that he had tried to make a place for himself but failed.

The song's chorus, "I live all by myself, and I can think all by myself," emphasizes the singer's self-reliance, making it apparent that he has been forced into living a life where he has only himself to rely on. The singer is aware of the fact that he is better off by himself, and although he has lost his inspiration and motivation, he is still breathing and surviving. The last line of the song, "I will leave all by myself," is almost an affirmation of the fact that the singer is strong enough to survive on his own and needs nobody's validation.

@@DelDuio Ah, which department did you work in? I was on the first floor and mainly in video during that time.

@DelDuio

@@peterraymond8470 Rock floor: Blues, Cajun/Zydeco, Bluegrass, Country & Folk. Essentially every genre of music I knew nothing about! They lumped all of these departments into one gob, I don’t know why.
