Half Me's sound blends modern metal and hardcore with elements of 90s nu metal, characterized by pounding riffs, intense breakdowns, and a mixture of aggressive and refined vocals.
The band's breakthrough came in May 2021 with the single Exitwound, which featured Jack Bergin from Void of Vision. The track garnered significant attention, landing the band in KNOTFEST’s “Countdown to Oblivion,” which helped propel them into the spotlight.
In February 2023, they released their debut album Soma via Arising Empire, with standout tracks that explore dark and introspective themes. The track Blacklight delves into the concept of losing control, inspired by true crime stories and characters like Michael Myers and Fritz Honka. Another track, I Am But A Guest In Exile, portrays a protagonist spiraling into paranoia and delusion, questioning their own reality while suffering from sleep deprivation and schizophrenic episodes.
Following the album's release, Half Me embarked on a European tour, playing high-profile festivals like Wacken Open Air. They were also nominated for the Heavy Music Awards.
Around 2023, the band's lineup shifted when guitarist Julius Jansen departed from the band, and Silvan Petersen filled his role. This change influenced their songwriting, as they moved away from a polished sound, opting for a more raw and organic feel in line with the new themes they were exploring.
In September 2024, Half Me released the EP titled Opium. They are also planning to release a second part to the EP in early 2025. Thematically, this follow-up will connect with the original Opium release, and recording sessions are scheduled after their upcoming U.S. tour.

Half Me Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Biting on fibers, I feel it crawling within
My bloodshot eyes, my righteous grin
You knew from the start that I’m a loose cannon
I don’t think you quite understand
My life is slipping out of my hand
Decompose from the inside out
The ultimate surrender to a dying sound
You’re the reason I keep giving in
Infested, I am made for the vices that I’m sick of dealing with
You make it seem like its something I believe
draining my reality
You make it seem like its something I believe
feasting on anxiety
Monologue of misery
Borderline insanity
I’m given up by every goddamn soul
Talk it down, placing bets on who will win
This broken kin weighs like sin
You make it seem like it’s on me
You make it seem like its something i believe
Feasting on anxiety
Bury your fangs deep inside my skin
My scars paint a picture of the hell I’m living in
The lyrics to "Wraith" by Half Me delve into themes of internal struggle, self-destruction, and the toxic influence of others. The first verse begins with the line "Bury your fangs deep inside my skin," a metaphorical depiction of someone causing harm or influencing the singer in a negative way. The mention of biting on fibers and feeling it crawling within suggests the all-consuming nature of this influence, as it infiltrates every aspect of the singer's being.
The lyrics continue with the mention of bloodshot eyes and a righteous grin, hinting at a volatile and unstable character. The line "You knew from the start that I’m a loose cannon" emphasizes this self-awareness and suggests that the singer's destructive behavior is not a surprise to those around them.
The subsequent lines express a sense of resignation and loss of control. The singer realizes that their life is slipping out of their hands, unable to maintain a firm grip on their own existence. The phrase "Decompose from the inside out" metaphorically reflects a self-destructive process, where the singer's inner turmoil leads to their eventual deterioration.
The chorus addresses the toxic influence the person has on the singer. The line "You’re the reason I keep giving in" indicates a cycle of succumbing to vice and negative behaviors. The singer feels infested and enslaved by the very vices they are weary of, reflecting a sense of helplessness and frustration.
The second verse touches upon the impact of this influence on the singer's perception of reality. It suggests that the person manipulates the singer's beliefs, draining their sense of reality and feasting on their anxiety. The mention of "Monologue of misery" and "Borderline insanity" conveys the magnitude of the singer's emotional turmoil, highlighting a deep sense of suffering.
The final lines emphasize the isolation and abandonment the singer feels, as they believe that every soul has given up on them. The mention of "This broken kin weighs like sin" suggests that even within their own family or close relationships, the weight of their struggles is burdensome and filled with guilt.
Overall, "Wraith" is a powerful expression of inner conflict, portraying the destructive impact of outside influences and the singer's struggle for control and self-preservation.
