Trust
Half Moon Run Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Daylight breaks, the sorry kicks in
You tried to play both sides so that everybody wins
But it couldn't be, and it wasn't enough
I need to know within a minute
If you're looking for an exit
Texas State might feel like LA
But it's really just a desert that dries you up
It'll drag you down

There's something in the way she's getting fucked again

It's not a riddle, it's a stepping stone
Oh, it's a slipping slope, it'll drag you down
Never seen one like this before
And it may seem like everybody got a better looking body
But it won't give you what you want
You just want what you can never have
Girl, I know I've seen this before

I want you more than ever
I want you more than ever
I won't stop lying

There's something in the way she's getting fucked again
How she's gonna hide it from the camera like a sin
Let's bare something
It makes me want to take you in

Now that it's cold
Like city lights that block out your star
Made to regret
Who stole your sunny days?
And did they teach you laughter?

Stay right there
Stay right there
Won't you stay right there
Stay right there
Won't you stay right there
Stay right there
Won't you stay right there
'Cause everybody wants you to just trust

Something in the way she
Something in the way she
Something in the way she

Something in the way she
Something in the way she

Overall Meaning

"Trust" by Half Moon Run is a hauntingly beautiful song about the complexities of trust and relationships. The lyrics convey a sense of desperation and longing, as the singer tries to navigate the tricky gray area between honesty and deceit. The opening lines set the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer speaks of the regret that comes with realizing that playing both sides never really works out the way we hope it will. The imagery of Texas and LA is interesting, as it portrays the idea of people chasing their dreams in a barren wasteland, hoping that they'll find fulfillment despite the odds stacked against them.

The chorus of the song is particularly striking, both in its repetition and in the way it captures the sense of longing and desire that runs throughout the song. The line "There's something in the way she's getting fucked again" is provocative and disturbing, and it speaks to the darker themes of the song. The singer seems to be grappling with the idea that people are complex and multifaceted, and that trust is never a straightforward thing. The lyrics suggest that we're all looking for something that we can never quite have, and that the pursuit of that elusive thing can lead us down some very dark roads.

Overall, "Trust" is a hauntingly beautiful song that captures the complexities and nuances of relationships and trust. The lyrics are thought-provoking and deeply emotional, and the music itself is mesmerizing and evocative. The song's haunting melody and powerful lyrics make it one of the standout tracks on Half Moon Run's debut album, and it's a testament to the band's talent and musical prowess.

When this track came out, I listened to it over 15 times in a row, there is so much going on here it is pure brilliance. One of HMRs best ever, has a mid 80s feel to it that just sounds right, it's all there. ❤

J.L. Abrassart

Excellent track and well produced!

As someone who's familiar with all the new material, I wish to reassure fans of "Dark Eyes" that as can be expected from a HMR album, you'll hear a lot of variety, including some more acoustic material.  Don't worry, folks.  You can trust HMR not to disappoint.  Personally, I love all the songs so far, but if this one isn't your thing, trust me when I say you'll still love the album when it's released.
