Within a year’s time, Halifax found itself among the rookie bands on the 2004 Warped Tour. By early 2005, after bowling them over Drive-Thru founders Richard Reines and Stefanie Reines during a New Jersey gig with The Early November, the label tweaked and reissued Reference. Halifax continued touring and building its fanbase while concocting what would become The Inevitability of a Strange World, a collection of riff-heavy arena rock anthems that blend post-punk hardcore with hard rock influences, a la Mötley Crüe.
The band took a three year break which was everything but a holiday: it was “a trial in life that gave us one ultimatum: stand up and fight for what we believe in or break up. 90% of bands fail, we like to think we're in the other 10%" explains Tommy. “Not to mention how much we have matured in the last 3 years as musicians and songwriters, let alone adults. We planted our feet firmly on the ground when we made this commitment to music and it’s going to take a lot more than faulty indie labels, lawsuits, and debt to sniper us out. We're not a band that backs down when faced with barriers. We have more respect for our fans and ourselves than to let anything get in the way or stop us from being artists.”
Wielding a melodic guitar driven sound, the quartet is back with their new EP Align. Halifax shows off their newly polished song-craftsmanship while still staying true to their musical influences, as they combine pop sensibility with their unmistakable riff rock and pounding rhythms. The band even shows off their penchant for reggae music in "Snake Slide", and "No Saturation".

But I'm out of ammunition
So I'll take these words and fire then into your chest
Find a new place for them to rest
I seize up your insides scarring your flesh
Open up and let them in
I'll write your name across the wall
Break my limbs and strech my skin
Until my hands can
reach across the floor
Feel for this pile of broken glass
I'll hand you the sharpest one
To place it right in my back
Yeah!
You did everything to me I did to you
This is the last song that your getting
'cause we're through
The only thing left perfect
Was things we put between us
'cause you know I'm always right
And your postcards are saying
How good it feels not to have you here
I'll write your name across the wall
With all the blood that spills from my heart
Break my limbs and strech my skin
Until my hands can
reach across the floor
Feel for this pile of broken glass
I'll hand you the sharpest one
To place it right in my back
So far so good
It takes a miracle
You're only half as good as someone to hear me in this well
Your last word isn't
I'll write your name across the wall
With all the blood that spills from my heart
Break my limbs and strech my skin
Until my hands can
reach across the floor
Feel for this pile of broken glass
I'll write your name across the wall
With all the blood that spills from my heart
Break my limbs and strech my skin
Until my hands can
reach across the floor
Feel for this pile of broken glass
I'll hand you the sharpest one
To place it right in my back
The lyrics of Halifax's song "Broken Glass Syndrome" seem to be about revenge and wanting to hurt someone in the same way they hurt the singer. The lines "I did everything you did to me to you / But I'm out of ammunition" suggest that the singer has already retaliated but is now resorting to using words instead. The next few lines, "I seize up your insides scarring your flesh / Open up and let them in", paint the picture of the singer inflicting emotional pain by verbally attacking the other person. The image of writing the other person's name on the wall with blood is violent and extreme, symbolizing the depth of the singer's feelings of anger and pain.
The chorus, which repeats the lines "I'll write your name across the wall / With all the blood that spills from my heart / Break my limbs and stretch my skin / Until my hands can reach across the floor / Feel for this pile of broken glass / I'll hand you the sharpest one / To place it right in my back", reinforces the theme of wanting revenge and pain. The image of the singer offering the other person the "sharpest" broken glass to "place it right in my back" suggests that they want to feel the pain they felt and don't care about the consequences or harm it might bring to them.
Overall, the song paints a picture of anger, bitterness, and unresolved hurt in relationships.
