Within a year’s time, Halifax found itself among the rookie bands on the 2004 Warped Tour. By early 2005, after bowling them over Drive-Thru founders Richard Reines and Stefanie Reines during a New Jersey gig with The Early November, the label tweaked and reissued Reference. Halifax continued touring and building its fanbase while concocting what would become The Inevitability of a Strange World, a collection of riff-heavy arena rock anthems that blend post-punk hardcore with hard rock influences, a la Mötley Crüe.
The band took a three year break which was everything but a holiday: it was “a trial in life that gave us one ultimatum: stand up and fight for what we believe in or break up. 90% of bands fail, we like to think we're in the other 10%" explains Tommy. “Not to mention how much we have matured in the last 3 years as musicians and songwriters, let alone adults. We planted our feet firmly on the ground when we made this commitment to music and it’s going to take a lot more than faulty indie labels, lawsuits, and debt to sniper us out. We're not a band that backs down when faced with barriers. We have more respect for our fans and ourselves than to let anything get in the way or stop us from being artists.”
Wielding a melodic guitar driven sound, the quartet is back with their new EP Align. Halifax shows off their newly polished song-craftsmanship while still staying true to their musical influences, as they combine pop sensibility with their unmistakable riff rock and pounding rhythms. The band even shows off their penchant for reggae music in "Snake Slide", and "No Saturation".

Her fingers graze my neck for the last time
Her lungs are spilling out
What's keeping me alive?
What's keeping her alive?
Let's see, let's cut of all her long blond hair
Listen sweetie
Hope your eyes can see
What you did to me
You'll always be my enemy
I see the victims of the deadliest poison
My face has turned her skin chalk white
My lungs are spilling out
What's keeping her alive, but was she ever dead?
Let's see, there's footprints trailing out of the morgue
Listen sweetie
You never meant that much to me
Hope your eyes can see
What you did to me
You'll always be my enemy
I see her body move
I watch her body move
She's deadly poison
My only poison
I see her body move
I watch her body move
She's deadly poison
My only poison
Let's see, let's cut of all her long blond hair
Listen sweetie
You never meant that much to me
Hope your eyes can see
What you did to me
You'll always be my enemy
My enemy
My enemy
What you did to me
You'll always be my...
Listen sweetie (I see her body move)
You never meant that much to me (I watch her body move, she's deadly poison, my only poison)
Hope your eyes can see (I see her body move)
What you did to me (I watch her body move)
You'll always be my enemy (She's deadly poison, my only poison)
The lyrics of Halifax's song Hey Italy are mysterious and can be interpreted in different ways. The first verse talks about someone moving their body in deadly positions, while their fingers graze the singer's neck. The person's lungs are spilling out, and the singer wonders what is keeping both of them alive. The lyrics suggest violence and danger, as the singer talks about cutting off the person's hair. The second verse continues with the theme of poisonous relationships and the victims of the deadliest poison. The singer's face turns the person's skin chalk white, and their lungs are spilling out. The last line of the verse suggests that the person was never truly dead, and there are footprints trailing out of the morgue.
The chorus repeats the refrain "Listen sweetie, you never meant that much to me," but the meaning behind it is unclear. It could be interpreted as the singer trying to distance themselves from the person and denying any feelings for them. The line "What you did to me, you'll always be my enemy" reinforces this idea, as it suggests the person did something harmful to the singer. However, the repeated line "I see her body move/I watch her body move/She's deadly poison/My only poison" adds a layer of complexity to the relationship between the two. It suggests that the person may have a hold on the singer, despite their toxicity.
Overall, the lyrics of Hey Italy are enigmatic and open to interpretation. The imagery of deadly poison, cutting hair, and footprints in a morgue add a sense of danger and violence to the song, while the repeated lines suggest a complex relationship between the two characters.
