Within a year’s time, Halifax found itself among the rookie bands on the 2004 Warped Tour. By early 2005, after bowling them over Drive-Thru founders Richard Reines and Stefanie Reines during a New Jersey gig with The Early November, the label tweaked and reissued Reference. Halifax continued touring and building its fanbase while concocting what would become The Inevitability of a Strange World, a collection of riff-heavy arena rock anthems that blend post-punk hardcore with hard rock influences, a la Mötley Crüe.
The band took a three year break which was everything but a holiday: it was “a trial in life that gave us one ultimatum: stand up and fight for what we believe in or break up. 90% of bands fail, we like to think we're in the other 10%" explains Tommy. “Not to mention how much we have matured in the last 3 years as musicians and songwriters, let alone adults. We planted our feet firmly on the ground when we made this commitment to music and it’s going to take a lot more than faulty indie labels, lawsuits, and debt to sniper us out. We're not a band that backs down when faced with barriers. We have more respect for our fans and ourselves than to let anything get in the way or stop us from being artists.”
Wielding a melodic guitar driven sound, the quartet is back with their new EP Align. Halifax shows off their newly polished song-craftsmanship while still staying true to their musical influences, as they combine pop sensibility with their unmistakable riff rock and pounding rhythms. The band even shows off their penchant for reggae music in "Snake Slide", and "No Saturation".

We are legends of the underground
The west coast is dying, but we're still getting down
Hollywood's got stilettos
Walking egos in skirts
Setting sunset on fire
We only do this cause it hurts
Well I want to hear you say
Hell yeah
Get up, get up, get up, do you believe in
Hollywood restart our revolution
Hell yeah
Get up, get up, get up, and sing it
If rock n' roll is dead, the dead will come undone
They say I kiss to kill
I just do it for fun
The stage girls shake to make my heart come undone
Glamour girls and whiskey
And Snow White's already kissed me
The sirens sound, the boys are out, take over this city
So get up, dance the night away
Well I want to hear you say
Hell yeah
Get up, get up, get up, do you believe in
Hollywood restart our revolution
Hell yeah
Get up, get up, get up, and sing it
If rock n' roll is dead, the dead will come undone
Hell yeah
Get up, get up, get up, do you believe in
Hell yeah
Get up, get up, get up, get up
Hell yeah
Get up, get up, get up, do you believe in
Hollywood restart our revolution
Hell yeah
Get up, get up, get up, and sing it
If rock n' roll is dead, the dead will come undone
The lyrics of Halifax’s song “Our Revolution” speak to the power of music and the energy that it brings. The opening lines “We are famous faces, we are legends of the underground” suggest that the band members are part of a movement that is not yet fully recognized by the mainstream. The next line, “The west coast is dying, but we're still getting down”, may refer to the decline of rock and roll as a relevant music genre, but the band is still passionate and believes in the power of their music to create change.
The lyrics paint a picture of a world where people are caught up in superficial things like stilettos and egos, but the band members refuse to be sucked into that lifestyle. They recognize that the music they make is not easy, and that it comes from a place of pain, but it is their way of making a difference.
The chorus of “Hell yeah, get up, get up, get up, do you believe in Hollywood restart our revolution” is a call to action, urging listeners to believe in the power of music to create change. The phrase “If rock n' roll is dead, the dead will come undone” is a powerful statement that suggests that even if the genre is on the decline, the energy and passion that it embodies will never die.
Overall, “Our Revolution” is a song that speaks to the power of music to create change and the importance of staying true to oneself in a world that often values superficial things.
