Daisy Mae
Hamilton Joe Frank & Reynolds Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Your love could be sweeter
Than the sweetest apple tree
But I can't taste the goodness
If you keep it far from me

Your eyes could be brighter
Than I've ever seen the sun
But I walk in the shadows
I'm a lonely son-of-a-gun

Daisy Mae (Daisy Mae)
You've been running around too long
Daisy Mae (Daisy Mae)
Come on back where you belong
It's okay (it's okay)
I will always be your friend
Daisy Mae (Daisy Mae)
You're going to find out in the end
That I'm the one who's going to bring the good times to you
I'll be the first to say
That I need you more than ever, Daisy Mae

Think about what you're missing
And what you've got waiting here
There's so much I'm keeping
Just to whisper in your ear

C'mon Daisy, now, don't hold out
Just to make me want you more
There's no one in this big old world
I'd rather be pulling for

Daisy Mae (Daisy Mae)
You've been running around too long
Daisy Mae (Daisy Mae)
Come on back where you belong
It's okay (it's okay)
I will always be your friend
Daisy Mae (Daisy Mae)
You're going to find out in the end
That I'm the one who's going to bring the good times to you
I'll be the first to say
That I need you more than ever, Daisy Mae

Daisy Mae (Daisy Mae)
You've been running around too long
Daisy Mae (Daisy Mae)
Come on back where you belong
Daisy Mae (Daisy Mae)
You've been running around too long
Daisy Mae (oh, Daisy Mae)
Come on back where you belong
Daisy Mae (Daisy Mae)
You've been running around too long
Daisy Mae (oh, Daisy Mae)
Come on back where you belong

Daisy Mae (Daisy Mae)
You've been running around too long

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the song "Daisy Mae" by Hamilton Joe Frank & Reynolds describe the longing of the singer for the affection of a girl named Daisy Mae. He compares her beauty to that of a sweet apple tree, but laments that he can't taste her goodness if she keeps herself far from him. The singer also acknowledges that Daisy Mae has been running around and he encourages her to come back to where she belongs, but assures her that he will always be her friend. The song ends with the singer proclaiming his need for Daisy Mae more than ever and his intention to bring good times to her.

The lyrics to "Daisy Mae" seem to convey a sense of unrequited love or of a relationship that is not fully realized. The singer acknowledges the beauty of Daisy Mae, but also acknowledges that she is not fully accessible to him, perhaps because she is involved with another person or because of her own personal issues. However, despite these barriers, the singer remains faithful and committed to Daisy Mae, encouraging her to come back to him and assuring her of his friendship.

One interesting fact about the song "Daisy Mae" is that it was released as a single in 1971 and reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Another interesting fact is that the song was written by Dan Hamilton, who was also a member of the band Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds. Additionally, the song was later covered by country music singer Billy Currington in 2005.

ちょっと前の、サンソンで流れてた覚えが!
ソウルフルだけど、哀愁漂う歌い方がすき。

Fallin in Love #1 Billboard 100 in 1975 (#33 in UK) , winners and losers # 21 Billboard 100, Everyday Without You #62 in billboard100, Light Up The World with sunshine #67 in Billboard 100, Don't fight the hands #72 in Billboard 100.
Don't pull your love #4 in Billboard 100 (#1 in canada), Daisy Mae #41 in billboard 100, Annabella #46 in Billboard 100. Many successes, so many beautiful songs (in fact, all of their songs are beautiful), but they were a highly underrated and quickly forgotten band 😥. They deserved much more recognition. I consider them to be the best in soft rock of the 70s ❤ I love them ❤ Thank you, Danny 💔. You were the best musician that ever existed.

Man ,I'm so glad I found this song...! I remember hearing it for the first time on radio station "WMAK" here in Nashville,TN. I believe Coyote Mccloud was the DJ. I remember most because there was a girl named Daisy Mae and she was in the sixth grade at Tusculum Elementary School in South Nashville I had a crush on her....!!! So Daisy if you're still out there come on back where you belong....!!!😍🥂

On this day in 1972 {March 18th} Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds performed "Daisy Mae" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'...
The week before the song was at #57 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, that was also it's eleventh and final week on the chart, and on January 30th it had peaked at #41 for one week...
Between 1971 and 1976 the trio had eight records on the Top 100 chart; two made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Fallin' In Love" for 1 week on August 24th, 1975...
Besides "Fallin' In Love", their other Top 10 record was "Don't Pull Your Love", it reached #4 {for 2 weeks} on July 11th, 1971...
The trio's last two Top 100 records were under the name of Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Dennison; Tommy Reynolds left the trio in 1972 and was replaced by Alan Dennison, but the trio continued to use the original name until it's final two charted records when they changed to Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Dennison...
Sadly, Dan Hamilton passed away at the young age of 48 on December 23rd, 1994 {Cushing's Syndrome}...
May he R.I.P.
