This is one of those songs that only Dan Hamilton could have pulled off to the maximum desired effect among listeners. He had the winning formula - the right voice, a catchy hook and a memorable melody. Add to this his rock star rugged looks, personality and virtuoso musicianship and you have close to perfection as can be. Even after so many years that Dan released this song (early 70s), it still generates airplay worldwide. I cannot see any of today's songs having the same impact and longevity.

Dan Hamilton lived a few streets away in our little town in Washington. He used to bully my brother in high school. 😀 My brother remembers "Danny" as a football player, but according to the yearbook his only extracurricular was choir. Then Dan dropped out of school, took his guitar to California and less than a decade later was recording this hit.

He stayed with his brother Judd and at the age of 16 composed the million-selling hit in Japan Diamond Head, from The Ventures. then he joined the avantis and toured with the Beach Boys, then joined T-Bones with his brother. They toured Japan and when they returned they formed Hamilton Joe Frank & Reynolds. wow, I must say I envy you for meeting Danny in person! He will forever be my greatest platonic love, he was incredible 😍❤

Hamilton was the next Elvis. Sadly He died so young from Cushing's syndrome ( basically glands that create too much cortisol ) People who have this condition usually skinny arms and legs and a round extended stomach similar to a beer belly. I knew someone in Canada that worked with Dan and he spoke how the music industry tried to hide his illness by having him wear clothes that hid his girth in the stomach area. He was a beautiful man and a good man I was told. Screw the music industry Dan. You were beautiful inside and out. May you rest in peace and know that We fans loved you. Sadly, It was a stroke that took his life which was a complication from his disease. I can only imagine how big a star Dan would have become. It breaks my heart,

Where all my fellow 50 year old fans at? I'm seeing so many comments of those lucky enough to go dancing or make out at "The Point" to this song but I was just a toddler when this song was becoming a classic. I'm 72 and it blows my mind that the oldest member of this group is 10 years older than I almost to the day and is now EIGHTY TWO. Dan was only 3 years younger than I, so he was about 24 when he recorded this and I loved it when it came out and I love it today. Such a shame he died so young; great voice, great songwriter. A time when all band members like steely dan etc actually studied at juliard (i read dan had published music by the time he was a teenager) so my opinion….they made music amd lived life , vs the mktg machine pace and the “artists” Who are often drawn to it like social media influencers as a means to the fame versus the Pham coming as a result of the music being the draw just kind of a different way you know I’m not saying that people didn’t get wrapped up and being stars and then things went different directions but as a post to social media influencers that are trying to make something out of nothing instead of something happening because of your talent or draw to music and then it evolves organically or at least not the cart before the horse if that makes any sense

Summer ‘71. Just before senior year High School. Tooling around in my friend’s ‘66 Malibu - really his Mom’s - singing along, off key, of course, on AM radio 77 with Cousin Brucie! Wow! Great song! Great times!

This song takes me back to the 70s, laying on the sand in Huntington Beach, CA. This song would come on your transistor radio and you were transported. I always loved song. Thank you and RIP Dan Hamilton for giving us this great song.

I was an on-air disc jockey from 1978 to 1990 at an AM (eventually also an FM) station and would occasionally get a request for the ELVIS song, "Don't Pull Your Love", and I would have to explain to them that it was NOT an Elvis song. Most people did not believe me and, honestly, I can't blame them. If you close your eyes and picture Elvis while listening to this 70's classic, it ALMOST, oh so close, sounds like THE KING singing! How I wish he had done a cover of this song, I just know it would have been AMAZING! In any case, this is a perfect, 1970's, pop CLASSIC!

Danny had a voice a thousand times better than Elvis. they are incomparable. Elvis was a performer and a dancer... but he was not a musician. Dan Hamilton was a Composer, excellent guitar player and an amazing vocalist, a complete "Musician".

Elvis Presley was OKAY. But the truth is he was a COVER artist not a musician. Out of 700 songs he recorded, over 540 plus were covers, the rest being written for him. He could not write, compose or create a sound anywhere close to the gems Dan a REAL ARTIST was capable of creating. Presley was also had a very bad habit of copying other vocalists singing styles in particular Jimmy Sweeney and total vocal plagiarizing of Roy Hamiltons ballad style in the 60s. Dan was his own man. Had a perfect Male low tenor voice with the kind of strength and easy beauty you can't teach. He didn't need to copy anyone. He wrote, composed and played instrument on his OWN work. In truth he wasn't the next Elvis. Dan was HIMSELF and that was MORE than enough.

He achieved his successes solely through his sheer effort and that of his bandmates; nothing was handed to him, he wasn't chosen to be a Teen Idol. Despite years of hard work, instrumental compositions, backing other guitarists on tours, opening for famous bands, and session work, he only tasted his first success at 25. It was so fleeting that he had to give his all to compose a dozen songs in a year, selling equipment to record demos and visiting numerous record labels until his work was accepted—a journey that resulted in a number 1 spot on the Billboard and a Gold record. All achieved through hard work without putting on a "show" or courting controversies. Always grounded, reserved, and worthy of his immense talent.

If anyone noticed Joe Reynolds' name didn't come up, he had left the group in 1972 but they continued with the same name. Alan Dennison joined the group in 1973 but it wasn't until 1976 that they changed their name to Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Dennison. They disbanded permanently in 1980.

I heard this when I was IN high school, and my 17 year old thought was that it wasn't possible to write a cooler, more fun song than this, About 40 years later, in class, it's on my spotify play list when students are coming into my classroom, and about a dozen times a year, one of them asks me to play that one again.
