Versus
Hamlet Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

¡Despierto!.

Overall Meaning

The song "Versus" is written and performed by Spanish metal band "Hamlet". The song describes the story of a giant who wanted to rule the whole universe and spent all his fortunes on dominating ideas and governments. He tortured those who protested without mercy and those who disagreed with him are no longer alive. He sowed hatred and misery among people and taught them to kill, conquer, and reap the harvest of his doing. Afterward, he became a victim of revenge when somebody killed him without hesitation, and his wealthy minions pray for him in admiration despite the atrocities he committed.

The song implies that there would always be a rebellion against bullies and oppressors. The lyrics describe a fight between a tyrant and his victims, and how the tyrant was brought down by the people he oppressed. The song also highlights the irony in the idea that the same people who cheered for the oppressor during his reign were the same ones that mourned for him after his death.

In conclusion, Hamlet's "Versus" is a tale of a tyrant, his tyranny, and eventual downfall, and how his actions created enemies from the people he oppressed. The song also proposes the notion that there will always be a David who will face the Goliaths of this world, intending to bring them down.
