Anybody's Girl

The jukebox will be playing your favorite song tonight
You're the loneliest fool that's living in your make believe world
You're a honky tonk sweetheart and anybody's girl
Though you chose the life that lead you to sorrow and shame
Each shoulder that you cry on, you swear that I'm to blame
You gave up the one that loved you to live in your sorted world
You're a honky tonk sweetheart and anybody's girlYou can't say I didn't love you as you're crying in your beer
You drink to every heartache and wish that I was near
With each drink you passion surges and start your head to whirl
You're a honky tonk sweetheart and anybody's girl
I don't understand your feelings but emotions are strange things
Why you gave up the life your leading and gave up your wedding ring
You flaunt your charms and beauty and toss your pretty curls
You're a honky tonk sweetheart and anybody's girl
You're a honky tonk sweetheart and anybody's girl
The lyrics of "Anybody's Girl" by Hank Thompson are a heartfelt portrayal of a woman who has forsaken love for the neon lights of the honky-tonk. In the opening verse, the singer describes a scene of dim lights and liquor, where the woman can be found each night, drowning her sorrows and listening to her favorite song on the jukebox. Despite her seemingly carefree existence, the singer notes that she is, in fact, the loneliest of fools, living in a make-believe world where she is anybody's girl.
The second verse suggests that this woman has chosen the life that has led to her sorrow and shame, and that she blames the singer for her predicament. She has given up the one who loved her, a presumably decent man, in order to indulge in her sorted world. She cries on every shoulder, but ultimately she is still a honky tonk sweetheart, and anyone's girl. The third verse paints a picture of a woman who is unable to love, lost in the cycle of drinking, crying, and flirting. The singer does not understand her motivations, but acknowledges that emotions are strange things. She is a conflicted figure, who flaunts her beauty and charms, but remains trapped in the honky-tonk world.
Overall, the lyrics of "Anybody's Girl" are a poignant reflection on the theme of lost love and the struggle to find fulfillment in the midst of heartache. Despite the woman's despondent state, the song retains a sense of empathy and understanding for her plight.

We sure as hell miss Hank and most of our other Country greats...especially Hank, for me. It's a crying shame that today, 2019, our best Country music comes from Ireland. U.S. Country of old gave us mostly men, but these Irish singers, from what I can see, are mostly girls...and they sometimes cover the old songs better than our favorites of old. Katie McKinley, for instance, sings Hanks Blackboard of My Heart and does a great job. Two other Irish Country singers you might want to check out...Niamh Lynn and Cliona Hagan. Still, I love Hank Thompson and I thank God for Youtube.

Danced to Hanks music, in the 50s, he was the best and me and my precious wife thought he had one of the best. Bob Wills had a great, great dance band, what fun!

Anybody's girl? Me? Not really. I fooled around a lot, in bars or whatever, but that meant flirting, teasing. dancing and playing touchy-feely. If a guy couldn't take a "no touch" from me and kept trying to feel me up, he didn't have a chance. On the other hand, if a guy showed me respect, was honest about what he wanted, he had a pretty good chance of getting what he wanted. Anybody's girl? Me? Nope. Two or three, maybe four, then married the one I've been happily with since the early 1960s. Great song, here, though, love all Hank Thompson songs.
