Tell Me Now
Hans Zimmer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Long ago your name a shadow in my dreams
The white brave still searching
Raining winds fall apart
I believe your heart

Tell me now what you see
Tell me what you feel
Now you're here tell me

Tell me now what you know
Never let me go
Tell me now what you see

Who cries from the hill?
The mist creeps from your eyes
Your banner will promise, let's remember the start
I believe your heart

Tell me now what you know
Never let me go
Tell me what you see

Tell me now what you see
Tell me what you feel
Now you're here, tell me

Tell me now what you know

Never let me go
Tell me now what you see

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Hans Zimmer's song "Tell Me Now" seem to be expressing a longing for a person who has been absent for a long time. The opening line "Long ago your name a shadow in my dreams" suggests that this person has been out of sight for some time, perhaps even out of mind, but they have persisted in the memory of the singer's dreams. The next few lines "The white brave still searching Raining winds fall apart I believe your heart" are more difficult to interpret, but they may be referring to the person's capacity for bravery and their perseverance in difficult conditions.

The chorus of the song seems to be an invitation for this person to open up to the singer: "Tell me now what you see/Tell me what you feel/Now you're here tell me/Tell me now what you know/Never let me go/Tell me now what you see." It's clear that the singer is eager to reconnect with this person and learn about their experiences during their time apart.

The final verse of the song "Who cries from the hill?/The mist creeps from your eyes/Your banner will promise, let's remember the start/I believe your heart" is perhaps the most haunting. There is a sense of mystery and loss, of someone who is trying to find their way home but is struggling with some kind of internal conflict. The final line "I believe your heart" is a note of optimism, suggesting that despite whatever hardships this person has faced, the singer still has faith in their essential goodness.

Long ago,
Your name a shadow,
In my dreams, the white,
Brave still searching,
Raining winds, fall apart.
I believe, your heart.

Tell me now,
What you see.
Tell me what you feel,
Now you're here.
Tell me.

Tell me now,
What you know.
Never let me go.
Tell me now,
What you see.

Who cries from the hill?
The mist creeps from your eyes,
Your banner will promise,
Let's remember the start,
I believe, your heart.

Tell me now,
What you know.
Never let me go.
Tell me what,
You see.
Tell me now,
What you see.

Tell me what you feel,
Now your here, tell me,
Tell me now.
What you know,
Never let me go.
Tell me now,
What you see.

I suppose it comes as no surprise that Moya Brennan is the sister of Enya. They both have that beautifully soft, haunting kind of singing voice that simply resonates.

Man, I loved this underrated movie.  I'm convinced the main reason this movie was underappreciated was the whole Sarmatian knight connection to Arthur and that the story here is shown as going back as far as 450 AD and not about 1100, as often it's shown.  I found this variation believable and incredibly alluring, being into history a lot.  Most of the audience likely would not be so enthralled by this (to them) unfamiliar presentation of the legend.  It actually has more than a little basis in fact and actually makes more sense, esp as to why they can't find to this day any clear writings or evidence of Arthur as an individual and when he ruled.   The period where Rome fell began the so-called Dark Ages, where writings, scrolls were burned and looted as Rome fell and it was many generations and centuries before order in Europe began to form.  It would be plausible for someone of such importance to get lost in the shuffle of history during that chaotic period 1500 years ago.

If you haven't already, take a look into Alan Wilson's research on King Arthur. It's incredible.

The music, cinematography, the choreography of the battle scenes of this movie, the acting and I would say in general just the whole overall look and feel of this movie were above excellent in my opinion. It deserved allot better than the really bad rap it got from many critics.
