Mad World
Harakiri for the Sky Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere

Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head, I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world, mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen

Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world, mad world

Enlarging your world
Mad world

Overall Meaning

The song "Mad World" by Harakiri for the Sky paints a picture of the world we live in, which is full of worn-out faces and places. It's a place where people go about their daily routines with no real purpose or direction. The lyrics depict a sense of hopelessness and sorrow, as we see people drowning in their tears and unable to express themselves, even though they are surrounded by people. The singer then talks about how he finds it funny and sad that the dreams he has of dying are the best he's ever had. This line in particular suggests that even in the darkest of moments, we can still find some beauty.

The chorus talks about how difficult it is for the singer to explain what he's feeling, and how he struggles to deal with people who seem to be running in circles. The final line, "enlarging your world," suggests that by acknowledging the madness of our world, we might be able to find our way out of it.

Overall, "Mad World" is a song that captures the sense of despair and hopelessness that can be felt in our society today. Through its powerful lyrics, the song encourages us to reflect on our lives and the world around us, and to try to make a positive impact wherever we can.

I usually don't like covers but this is by far the greatest interpretation of another artists song I have ever heard, honestly

@siegheilyolo

As a person with schizophrenia, I can confirm that the video is extremely well done.

Imaginary real life

@CDUKTV_YT

Amazing video however I feel sad that a lot of depictions of people living with schizophrenia end in some kind of uncontrolled violent action, i just dont feel it helps some of the stigma surrounding their condition. What are your thoughts?

@siegheilyolo

@@CDUKTV_YT It's a whole another world where you cannot change or rule anything. You just go with the flow of current events or situations and your reaction/actions change based on the current mood/personality you feel. Really hard to describe but anytime I talk about it with someone, they just can't imagine the way I perceive everything around me. It's a surreal world of mine out of time, like if everything was seen through a thick, cloudy glass. A world that changes according to your state of mind.

@dungeonmasterblaster5600

@@siegheilyolo Jesus, dude. I can't imagine. I hope you're doing well and I hope the world you're in now is a good one.

@siegheilyolo

@@dungeonmasterblaster5600 Started to take my meds again and it got a bit less out of hand, but still one hell of a daily rollercoaster. As HFTS depict in their other song - I hate being bipolar, it's fucking awesome. Blessed and cursed.
