Hardwell Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
These lyrics are actually a reference to the REM song "Losing My Religion." Hardwell has taken inspiration from the song and created his own version. The lyrics themselves touch on themes of insecurity and fear of rejection. In the first stanza, the singer expresses how life is bigger than just one person and their individual experiences, highlighting the idea of interconnectedness. They then reveal their vulnerability, stating that they are willing to go great lengths to connect with someone but are unsure if that person reciprocates these feelings.
Moving on to the second stanza, the singer identifies themselves as the person in the corner or the spotlight, indicating that they are under scrutiny or feeling exposed. They then reveal their fear of not being able to keep up with the person they are addressing, expressing doubt in their own abilities. The line "I thought that I heard you singing," might suggest that the person is not taking notice of the singer, creating insecurity in the singer that they are not matching up to the other person's standards.
Overall, the song reveals the singer's vulnerability, insecurity and fears, while questioning their adequacy in their interpersonal relationships.
