Tom Dooley
Harmony Grass Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die
I met her on the mountain
There I took her life
Met her on the mountain
Stabbed her with my knife

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die

This time tomorrow
Reckon where I'll be
Hadn't a-been for Grayson
I'd a-been in Tennessee

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die

This time tomorrow
Reckon where I'll be
Down in some lonesome valley
Hangin' from a white oak tree

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die

Poor boy, you're bound to die

Poor boy you're bound to die
Poor boy, you're bound to die...

There can't be many finer vocal performances than this. I still love this version after so many many years.

John, I think the album in CD form can be found but it'll be quite expensive. I believe the tracks can be downloaded though. '

Tony, still trying. You're right about how expensive 'This Is Us' is. On Amazon it's £89.99. Just think of the royalties though! Found it also on '7 digital' for £7.49, but it won't download. I think I may have been had, so another paypal dispute's on the horizon.
