You're so like the lady with the mystic smile
Is it only cause you're lonely they have blamed you
For that Mona Lisa strangeness in your smile
Do you smile to tempt a lover Mona Lisa?
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart?
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there, and they die there
Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art.
Do you smile to tempt a lover Mona Lisa?
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart?
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there, and they die there
Are you warm, are you real Mona Lisa?
Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art.
Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa.
The lyrics of Harry Allen's song Mona Lisa are inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting of the same name. The first verse addresses the subject of the painting, Mona Lisa, and her enigmatic smile. The singer wonders if her smile is meant to lure a lover or if it is a façade to conceal her pain. The second verse continues the speculation about Mona Lisa's true nature: is she warm and real or simply a beautiful object devoid of emotion?
The song invites the listener to contemplate the meaning behind the Mona Lisa's expression and to imagine the inner life of the woman it portrays. The lyrics suggest that the painting and the woman it depicts are surrounded by mystery and intrigue, and that they have inspired countless interpretations and fantasies.
Overall, the song Mona Lisa is a poignant tribute to the enduring power of art to captivate and inspire the human imagination.
