Je refuse
Harry Diboula Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A quoi ça sert d'exister
Si tu n'est plus à mes côtés
Je refuse
Je dois me résoudre à fermer

The song "Je refuse" by Harry Diboula is a powerful ballad that expresses deep emotional pain and refusal to move on from a past love. The opening lines of the song establish the singer's resistance to hearing comforting platitudes about the passage of time healing all wounds. The lyrics convey a sense of despair and hopelessness, as the singer mourns the loss of a loved one and struggles to find meaning in life without them. He resists the notion that life will somehow go on, insisting that without his partner, he will never find happiness again.
The chorus of the song serves as a refrain, reiterating the singer's refusal to speak, listen or carry on living without his beloved. The lyrics express a sense of resignation towards the end of the song, as the singer asks himself what the point is in winning, when he has lost everything that mattered to him.
In short, the song captures the raw, intense feelings of heartbreak, refusal to accept the passage of time and the hopelessness that often accompanies deep loss. It is a poignant reflection on the timeless human experience of grief.
