Long ago, far away,
Excuse me.

Crazy little momma come a knockin'
Come a knockin' at my front door door door
Crazy little momma come a knockin'
Come a knockin' at my front door
Crazy little momma come a knock knock knockin'
Just like she did before

I woke up this mornin' with a feelin' of despair
Just lookin' for my baby but she wasn't there
Heard someone knockin' and much to my surprise
There stood my baby lookin' in my eyes
Crazy little momma come a knock knock knockin'
Just like she did before

Yeah, if you got a little momma and wanna keep her neat
Keep your little momma off my street
Same thing will happen like it did before
She come a knock knock knockin' at my door
Crazy little momma come a knock knock knockin'
Just like she did before

Just like she did before
Just like she did before

Overall Meaning

The song "At My Front Door" by Harry Nilsson is a classic upbeat rock and roll song that features the story of the singer waking up one day to find his girlfriend or lover gone. In the first verse, he mentions how this incident happened "long ago, far away," indicating that this is a recurring theme or memory that he cannot simply shrug off. The chorus then introduces the key hook, that a "crazy little momma come a knockin'" at his front door, just like she did before.

The singer goes on to recount a feeling of "despair," as he searches for his lover but is unable to find her. The sudden knock at the door is then revealed to be his lover, who has seemingly returned. This emphasizes the cyclical nature of the singer's relationship with this woman, despite his frustration with her behavior.

The second verse then takes a more playful turn, with the singer issuing a warning to other men with "little mommas" to keep them away from his street, lest they suffer the same fate as he did. The final lines return to the repetitive nature of the woman's behavior, with the singer resignedly acknowledging that she will come knocking again, "just like she did before."

'Wow!' I forgot what an awesome rocker this song was. Two thumbs up for sure.

Love it! Love him! Love the fake crowd scene. He, as we know, didn't perform live, had no interest in it, so this was clearly a bunch of actors acting as a crowd. Some big names in the history of session musicians are present, if I'm not mistaken. I'm currently reading a biography of Harry, entitled "Nilsson: The Life of a Singer-Songwriter" by Alyn Shipton. Not the snazziest of titles, but an amazing book about an amazing human.

If anyone was born to sing, its Nilsson. He has that natural 3 and a half octave range that his friends The Beatles wished they had. Back in the 70s we all just knew him as Nilsson. What a Talent!
