Fine Line
Harry Styles Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Put a price on emotion
I'm looking for something to buy
You've got my devotion
But man, I can hate you sometimes

I don't want to fight you
And I don't wanna sleep in the dirt
We'll get the drinks in
So I'll get to thinking of her

We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line

Test of my patience
There's things that we'll never know
You sunshine, you temptress
My hand's at risk, I fold

Crisp trepidation
I'll try to shake this soon
Spreading you open
Is the only way of knowing you

We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be alright
We'll be alright
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be alright (alright, alright, alright)

(We'll be alright)
(We'll be alright)

We'll be alright
We'll be alright

Overall Meaning

Harry Styles’s song Fine Line is a poignant ballad about the complexity of relationships. The opening lines “Put a price on emotion, I'm looking for something to buy” describe the emotionless and materialistic world in which we live in. The singer is searching for something to hold on to, and although he is fully committed to the relationship, he admits in the next line that he can feel hate as well. He wants to avoid conflict, and instead, he suggests that they get some drinks and think of her.

In the second verse, the singer explains the internal struggle he is faced with, saying, “Test of my patience, there's things that we'll never know.” Despite his efforts to remain patient and understanding, he is slowly losing his grip on the relationship. The line “Spreading you open is the only way of knowing you” is a reference to the idea that there can be no true intimacy without vulnerability.

The chorus repeats, “We'll be a fine line, we'll be alright” as if reassuring himself that the problems in the relationship are only temporary and that they will get through them. The song is a beautiful and melancholic expression of the fragility of love and the difficulties of maintaining it.

@PrinceHarry5335

IDK WHY BUT..
Every time I hear this masterpiece...
I start to remember good/cute and bad/sad moments that happened on my life until now...
But one thing that I always do while listening to this is crying... Not kidding
I always cry while listening to this masterpiece...
Thank you Harry.....
This song is everything to me...

If Harry says we'll be alright... than WE'LL BE ALRIGHT...
