After attending Northeastern University in Boston, Black pursued an internship at a record label in London, England. There, he immersed himself in the music scene, exploring various aspects such as writing, photography, and composing. Haux began his career by recording tracks and sharing them on SoundCloud, eventually releasing his first digital EP, "The Bluest Sage," on December 8, 2014. In 2016, he released his debut physical EP, "All We've Known," on Akira Records, drawing comparisons to artists like Bon Iver, C Duncan, and Benjamin Francis Leftwich.
Over the following years, Haux continued to release dreamy singles such as "Touch," "Youth," and "Cologne," which were later compiled into his 2018 EP, "Something to Remember." However, during a European tour after the EP's release, Haux experienced severe anxiety, prompting him to take a break from music and confront his formative trauma.
On July 17, 2020, Haux released his debut full-length album, "Violence in a Quiet Mind." The album delves into the themes of family struggles with substance abuse, trauma, and the importance of confronting personal demons for healing. Through introspective and deeply personal songs, Haux reflects on the loss of loved ones, particularly his aunts, and the generational struggle with addiction within his family.
The album was recorded on the Isle of Harris in Scotland, a place significant to Haux's mother, creating an isolated and emotionally charged environment for channeling his feelings. Co-produced by Jamie Macneal and Thomas Bartlett, the album maintains an intimate atmosphere that captures the raw emotions and vulnerability of Haux's storytelling.
Haux hopes that "Violence in a Quiet Mind" will spark conversations about mental health, addiction, and the importance of honesty and empathy. By sharing his own experiences and struggles, Haux aims to provide solace and support for listeners as they confront their own challenges and seek healing from past traumas. The album invites audiences on an intimate and contemplative journey, encouraging self-reflection and embracing the power of healing through music.

With the coldest feet
As we drive back
In the back seat
And you asked me
In your parents car
Do you ever regret who
You are?
Capsized
At the hairpin
Cold hearts
Causing
Accidents
Accidents
Cold hearts
Causing accidents
As we were falling
Through space and time
All I kept thinking
Was how we never read the signs
Then your iris
Caught my eye
Now I see it every time that I see mine
Capsized
At the hairpin
Cold hearts
Causing
Accidents
Accidents
Cold hearts
Causing accidents
We're in the throes of apathy
We tell ourselves we're in too deep
So scared of what we'll never find
So scared of all we'll leave behind
We're in the throes of apathy (excuse all I'm saying)
We tell ourselves we're in too deep (you know you're in too deep)
So scared of what we'll never find (your ribs are fractured)
So scared, so scared (but you're already so scared)
Capsized (we're in the throes of apathy)
At the hairpin (we tell ourselves we're in too deep)
Cold hearts (so scared of what we'll never find)
Causing (so scared of all we'll leave behind)
Accidents (we're in the throes of apathy)
Accidents (we tell ourselves we're in too deep)
Cold hearts (so scared of what we'll never find)
Causing accidents (so scared, so scared)
The song "Accidents" by Haux is a haunting and melancholic study of regret, missed opportunities, and the overwhelming power of emotion. The lyrics speak to the tensions and contradictions that can arise when we allow ourselves to get too close to someone or something, and the risks that we take when we try to navigate the treacherous waters of love, loss, and desire.
The opening lines of the song set the tone for the rest of the piece, as the singer confesses to feeling uncertain and vulnerable in the face of his own feelings. He describes himself as having "the coldest feet," which suggests that he is hesitant or afraid to take action, even when he knows deep down that he needs to. As the song progresses, we learn that he is riding in the back seat of a car with someone special, and that they are having a conversation about the nature of identity and self-discovery. The singer is asked if he ever regrets who he is, which hints at a deep-seated sense of dissatisfaction or disappointment with his own life.
The chorus of the song is built around the repetition of two phrases: "capsized at the hairpin" and "cold hearts causing accidents." These lines suggest that the singer is caught in a kind of emotional trap, where his own fears and doubts are constantly causing him to miss out on the things that he really wants. He feels like he is caught in a cycle of self-destructive behavior and negative thinking, and that all of his efforts to break free only lead to more trouble and heartache. Despite this, he remains determined to keep pushing forward, even when it feels like there is no way out.
