Check out Zach's new band, Popular Culture.
Have Fun Dying, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, started around 2003 and performed as a duo with Zach (guitar/vocals), and Nic (drums). They added Kacie (piano/bass) to the line up before recording their first album, On the Lips, in 2004.

Smoke and Mirrors
Have Fun Dying Lyrics

I know you read me like a book
You took my head and filled it up with
Ideas-via-false-pretense, it's nonsense
I'm focusing on you
My stare is glued to you
You know you know you know you know it
But you ignore it, and I can't stand it
I'll have my eyes sewn shut
Don't wanna see what I've become
Alright alright.
The lyrics to Have Fun Dying's song Smoke and Mirrors, on the surface, seem to be about a person who is aware that someone else sees through their facade, but chooses to ignore it. The singer's head has been filled with ideas that are based on false pretenses and they are aware of it. They are focusing on this other person - their stare is glued to them - but the other person is ignoring this fact. The singer cannot stand this and is frustrated that the other person is not acknowledging their feelings.
However, if we delve deeper into the lyrics, it becomes apparent that they may be about a person who is struggling with their identity or coming to terms with the person they have become. The line "Don't wanna see what I've become" supports this interpretation. The singer may be struggling with their sense of self and projecting a false image to others in order to cope. They know that the person they are focusing on sees through this facade, but they are choosing to ignore their own issues and focus on this other person.
Overall, the lyrics to Smoke and Mirrors are open to interpretation and may have different meanings to different people. They showcase the struggles people face in trying to present a version of themselves that they think others will accept, while also dealing with their own inner turmoil.
