Shooting Star
Hawaii Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Close your tired eyes, relax and then
Count from 1 to 10 and open them
All these heavy thoughts will try to weigh you down
But not this time

Way up in the air, you're finally free
And you can stay up there right next to me
All this gravity will try to pull you down
But not this time

When the sun goes down and the lights burn out
Then it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are

Fill the darkest night with a brilliant light
'Cause it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are tonight

Woah-oh, woah-oh, woah-oh

Brighter than a shooting star
Shine no matter where you are tonight

Gaze into my eyes when the fire starts
And fan the flames so hot it melts our hearts
Oh, the pouring rain will try to put it out
But not this time

Let your colors burn and brightly burst
Into a million sparks that all disperse
And illuminate a world that'll try to bring you down
But not this time

When the sun goes down and the lights burn out
Then it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are

Fill the darkest night with a brilliant light
'Cause it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are tonight

Woah-oh, woah-oh, woah-oh

Brighter than a shooting star
Shine no matter where you are tonight

A thousand heart beats beat in time
It makes this dark planet come alive
So when the lights flicker out tonight
You gotta shine

When the sun goes down and the lights burn out
Then it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are

Fill the darkest night with a brilliant light
'Cause it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are tonight

Woah-oh, woah-oh, woah-oh

Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are tonight

Overall Meaning

The song "Shooting Star" by Hawaii is about encouraging someone who is feeling weighed down and burdened by their thoughts to break free from it all and shine brightly like a shooting star. It starts off with the invitation to close one's eyes and count to ten before opening them, suggesting a mindfulness exercise to help clear the mind. The lyrics speak of the struggle against the force of gravity that tries to pull us down, particularly when we're feeling low. But the message of the song is that it's possible to rise above all of that and shine brightly, no matter where we are or what we're going through.

The chorus repeats the message of shining brightly like a shooting star, even in the darkest of nights. The bridge adds another layer to the encouragement, saying that the beating of a thousand hearts creates a vitality in the world, and one must shine in order to add to that vibrancy. The song then ends with a repeated invitation to shine no matter what and to do so brightly.

Overall, the song is an uplifting message about breaking free from negative thought patterns and shining brightly in the world. It calls on the listener to rise above the struggles of life and make a positive impact on the world around them.

me and my bestfriend saw a shooting star after i broke up with my boyfriend, i loved him truly. After we broke up i met the boy i call my bestfriend and we would bike around town all night during the summer. The last time me and him hung out we stopped to look at the stars in a field when we saw the star.a couple days after he committed and that was the last time i saw him. I was 14 and when i turned 18 his father gave me a letter he wrote me before he died. In the letter he said when we saw that star he wished for me to be happy and that he’d always loved me, i’m 19 now and everytime i see a shooting star it reminds me of him, like the star is his way of saying everything will turn out okay.

On the night of August 12-13, I saw 62 meteors in four hours. Such a satisfying experience.

I saw about 6, no light pollution and all, the Perseids were weaker this year. But I saw about 17 geminids in the short amount of time we got away from the clouds

I have seen more than 62 in one hour many times. And they are not flying rocks they are ufos. That is why u will never see them going straight downward unless they are landing or crash landing. They are always travelling sideways and away.
