Words
Hawk Nelson (Feat. Bart Millard of Mercy Me) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They've made me feel like a prisoner
They've made me feel set free
They've made me feel like a criminal
Made me feel like a king

They've lifted my heart
To places I'd never been
And they've dragged me down
Back to where I began

Words can build you up
Words can break you down
Start a fire in your heart or
Put it out

Let my words be life
Let my words be truth
I don't wanna say a word
Unless it points the world back to You

You can heal the heartache
Speak over the fear
(Speak over the fear)
God, Your voice is the only thing
We need to hear
(We need to hear)

Words can build us up
Words can break us down
Start a fire in our hearts or
Put it out

Let my words be life
Let my words be truth
I don't wanna say a word
Unless it points the world back to You
(Back to You)

Let the words I say
(Let the words I say)
Be the sound of Your grace
(Sound like Your grace)
I don't wanna say a word
Unless it points the world back to You

I wanna speak Your love
Not just another noise
Oh, I wanna be Your light
I wanna be Your voice

Let my words be life
Let my words be truth
I don't wanna say a word
Unless it points the world back to You
(Back to You)

Let the words I say
(Let the words I say)
Be the sound of Your grace
(Sound like Your grace)
I don't wanna say a word
Unless it points the world back to You
(Back to You)

Words can build us up
Words can break us down
Start a fire in our hearts
Or put it out

I don't wanna say a word
Unless it points the world back to You

The song encourages listeners to use their words to spread truth, to let their words be a reflection of God's grace, and to be a light in the world.

The song is written in a simple and catchy style, with a chorus that is easy to sing along to. The message of the song is also conveyed through the use of dynamic changes in the music, with quiet and contemplative moments followed by bursts of energy and power.

You don't have to do everything everyone says to be a doormat, as communication and persuasion/conversation often neglects physical action.

Not everyone who shows signs of being impolite at times is a jerk, and what you say is true about no one being perfect. Thus, why on Earth are you starting an argument over this? It's illogical.

Of course I'm careful about what I say, that's how I get on in life. In this scenario, I did not need to be careful at all, because a juvenile young boy was showing signs of becoming brainwashed. It is only instinctual as a human being to want to save him before it is too late. Stop relating this to the bigger picture, it doesn't aid your cause in the slightest, because this isn't a big thing, you are making it one.

It doesn't matter to me what God says, I follow my own rules and principles in life, and I get by just fine. This poor young boy is going to grow up with ridiculous ideas about a necessary being which is supposedly the creator of contingency. I don't want that to happen to anybody if I can help it, as an atheist.

Words can leave a mark, and that was exactly my intention. It sounds a though he is on the wrong path, and I am here to set him straight. Don't worry about his mental well being, I am doing quite the opposite of corrupting him.
