Read Full Bio ↴Hayden Calnin is an Australian singer-songwriter based in Melbourne.
The ink lines that would shape young, self-produced, singer/songwriter Hayden Calnin and his budding musical career were drawn in his teen years after his father gave him a guitar at age 14. He hasn’t gone a day since without playing it.
Dabbling in bands through his teen years led him to add drums and piano to his repertoire, until at the age of 17 he finally decided to give singing a go.
Calnin's guitar-driven sound is complemented by a selection of husky, honest harmonies and delicate folk-pop melodies.
Introduction; Nothingness

This implies another state called isn't
Or illusion, or unreality, or nothingness, or death
There it is, you can't know one without the other
And so as to make life poignant, it's always gonna come to an end
That is exactly, don't you see, what makes it livley
Livleyness is change, it's motion
So you see, you're always at the place, where you always are
I hope we don't go further down
So that we loose what we already have
But that is built into every creatures situation
No matter how high, no matter how low
So in this sense all places are the same place
And the only time you ever notice any diffrence is in the moment of transission
When you go up a bit, you gain
When you go down a bit, you feel disappointed, gloomey, lost
You can go all the way down to death
Somehow there seems to be a difficulty getting all the way up
Death seems so final
Nothingness seems so very, very irrevicable and permanent
But then if it is, what about the nothingess that was before you started?
On the contrary, it takes nothing to have something
Cause you wouldn't know something was without nothing
You wouldn't be able to see anything unless there was nothing behind you eyes
The most real state is the state of nothingness
This is what its all gonna come to
The lyrics to "Introduction; Nothingness" by Hayden Calnin contemplate the nature of existence, the duality of life and death, and the inevitability of change. The singer suggests that the existence of life itself is marked by its transience, for without the reality of death, life would not hold the same meaning. Inherent in the fabric of life is the knowledge that it will eventually come to an end, which is what makes it so lively and beautiful. The lyrics also seem to suggest the importance of staying present and appreciating what one has in the moment. All places are the same place, and the only time one notices a difference is at the point of transition.
The lyrics of "Introduction; Nothingness" contain philosophical and existential themes, inviting the listener to ponder the meaning of their own existence. The song points to the interconnectedness of life and death - that one cannot exist without the other. The singer observes that something can only have meaning in relation to its opposite, and thus, the idea of nothingness is just as essential to understanding reality as its opposite. The idea of nothingness speaks to the ultimate state of being that all life must eventually return to, nothingness being the most real state.
