Let It Be
Hayley Kiyoko Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Baby, come around 'cause I need you
Baby, calm me down let me see you
'Cause you know you're my operator
Let me show every single layer
Losing all my power just to have you
Hundred miles an hour thinking 'bout you
Every night gets a little tougher
How can I dream about another?

'Cause I believe we're the ones who had it all
I believe we just had to learn to fall
I miss you, I love you, so it's really hard to see
Yeah, we just got to let it be

Let us see, be free

Baby, come around 'cause I want you
Laying on the floor here without you
'Cause you know you're my operator
Help me show every single layer
Giving baby steps a new meaning
Yeah, I'm making such a mess of my feelings
Won't you just meet me in the middle
Where's the love, won't you give a little?

'Cause I believe we're the ones who had it all
I believe we just had to learn to fall
I miss you, I love you, so it's really hard to see
Yeah, we just got to let it be

Let us see, be free
Let us see, be free

Can't imitate us it's breaking my bones
Heart up in chaos that keeps me alone
Wasted the beautiful all on my own
I'm making a new home
Washing the sheets 'cause you're still in my bed
Can't leave the dark 'cause you're all in my head
All in my head and it's killing me and it's killing me
'Cause we're at the end

I believe we're the ones who had it all
I believe we just had to learn to fall

I miss you, I love you, so it's really hard to see
Yeah, we just got to let it be

Overall Meaning

Hayley Kiyoko's song "Let It Be" is a vulnerable and emotional depiction of a tumultuous relationship that has come to an end. The lyrics express the singer's longing for her former partner while also acknowledging the pain and difficulty of their situation. The opening lines, "Baby, come around 'cause I need you / Baby, calm me down let me see you," establish the yearning and desperation that runs throughout the song. The singer feels like they have lost control, even saying "Losing all my power just to have you." The relationship has left her feeling helpless and powerless.

The chorus, "I believe we're the ones who had it all / I believe we just had to learn to fall / I miss you, I love you, so it's really hard to see / Yeah, we just got to let it be," creates a sense of acceptance and resignation. The singer acknowledges that their relationship may have had its flaws, but they were still deeply in love. She expresses the hope that they can come to a place of peace and acceptance, even if it means going their separate ways.

The verses continue to delve into the emotional complexities of the situation, expressing the desire to be with the partner and feeling lost without them, while also acknowledging that they have caused confusion and hurt, saying "Yeah, I'm making such a mess of my feelings." The bridge, "Can't imitate us it's breaking my bones / Heart up in chaos that keeps me alone / Wasted the beautiful all on my own / I'm making a new home," reflects the pain of moving on and the challenges of creating a new life without the person who was once so important.

Overall, "Let It Be" is a powerful and emotive song about the end of a relationship and the struggle to come to terms with that loss.

Hayley I love the different ambient sounds you incorporate (ocean, seagulls at the end - just one example - etc.). This is one of the more different (sonically) songs I've heard in a long time, and that's super refreshing. Also, these words have moved me.

And it's the same water sound as "Expectations (Overture)" and also this track is the last one on the album, the lyrics fit it perfectly, it's going in circle

Giana Luna

Seriously though, Hayley, the way you have so much creative control over all aspects of your career between your music and your music videos, it really inspires me in my own music. You're so talented and you do fabulous work!

RUSSA

She is an inspiration indeed! I just released my album on YouTube yesterday. I am a Portuguese rapper. However, sometimes I write in English as well. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe you will like track nr 2 "game over, girl" which is in English!
