Molecules
Hayley Kiyoko Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pillars of my heart
Everything got shattered in the dark
Tried to be evolved
Does it really matter at all?

Feathers on the red bed
Messy on the floorboards
Data in my head
Gets caught up in the drug stores
Make me feel again
Make me feel again

So what should I do?
All that's left is molecules of you
Tried to rearrange
Did you feel that everything was strange?

Dancing in the red rain
Tied up to the bed post
Falling like a tear stain
Only for your cold ghost
Make me feel again
Make me feel again

I've lost you
Na na na na na na
Na na na na na na
I've lost you (na na na na na na)
Ooh Na na na na na na
Na na na na na na
Na na na na na na
Na na na na na na
You, you

Keep me wide awake
Every cell, I feel your body ache
Can we start the fall?
Does it really matter at all?

Feathers on the red bed
Messy on the floorboards
Data in my head
Gets caught up in the drug stores
Make me feel again
Make me feel again

Na na na na na na
Na na na na na na
I've lost you
Na na na na na na
I've lost you
Na na na na na na
Na na na na na na
I've lost you
Na na na na na na
Na na na na na na

Na na na na na na

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Molecules" by Hayley Kiyoko are a reflection of the aftermath of a relationship that has ended. The song starts with the lines "pillars of my heart, everything got shattered in the dark". This signifies that something integral to her being has been destroyed, and she is left picking up the pieces. She then talks about trying to evolve, but questions if it even matters now that the relationship is over.

The chorus of the song talks about how all that's left of the relationship is molecules of the person she was with. She tried to rearrange and make things work, but everything felt strange. The imagery in the song is vivid and intense as she talks about feathers on the red bed, messy floorboards, and dancing in the red rain. The lines "keep me wide awake, every cell, I feel your body ache" further emphasize that the memories of the relationship are still very present and real for her.

The overall theme of the song seems to be the pain that comes with letting go of a relationship, and how it can staying beyond the end of the relationship. The song's lyrics paint a picture of someone who is struggling to move on and make sense of their feelings.

okay guys, I need to point out something. As a Psychology student, damn I. You see, in HNLY, Hayley had called the girl "addicted and thirsty" and referred to herself as "the drug you never took". But look here now she was saying "all that's left is molecules of you." All the lyrics ("make me feel again", "tried to rearrange") basically point to withdrawal symptoms or her trying to fight her own addiction for the girl. It's actually tragic because Hayley was longing for this girl, addicted to her although the girl never made her feel like she "was missed" (wanna be missed).

another thing is that all of her songs are also based on the 5 stages of grief aaaa. Like she first showed denial and isolation (basically still hoping for this girl and her to be reunited) seen in "curious" and "wanna be missed". Then anger was experienced in "HNLY". Later on depression was centered in "Palm dreams" and "Molecules". The last stage, featured in Let it be, you guess it - Acceptance.

Man I. i just. Im gonna blast this to study for my upcoming exams

Here’s how to know if your crush is gay: show her Hayley Kiyoko.

If she responds with, “Isn’t that the girl from Lemonade Mouth?” then she’s straight.

If she responds with, “I love Hayley Kiyoko! I listened to all of her albums.” she’s gay as hell and you gotta make you move.

I am listening to Hayley now and I just realized my old crush liked me back but I didn’t know. She asked me about Hayley and I didn’t know about her.
