Sudden Desire
Hayley Williams Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
With open mouth and open mouth
We keep our distance now
I wanna feel his hands go down
I try not to think about
What happened last night outside his house
Too far to go back now
Just wanna feel his hands go down
Sudden, sudden desire
Sudden, sudden desire
A sudden desire
Take the elephant by the hand and hold it
It's cruel to tame a thing that don't know its strength
But better to walk beside it
Mm, than underneath
My kind companion
Softens stone
My gentle giant
Painful reminder
Don't look in my eyes, I feel a sudden desire (sudden, sudden desire)
Don't know if I can deny a sudden desire (sudden, sudden desire)
Your fingerprints on my skin, a painful reminder
Don't look in my eyes, I feel a sudden desire (sudden, sudden desire)
A sudden desire
Won't fit in the room, big balloon
Trails me 'cause I can't let go
Everywhere I am, it sticks close like a friend
Just like him
Just like him
Friendly reminder
Of a sudden desire
Don't look in my eyes, I feel a sudden desire (sudden, sudden desire)
Don't know if I can deny a sudden desire (sudden, sudden desire)
Your fingerprints on my skin, a painful reminder
Don't look in my eyes, I feel a sudden desire (sudden, sudden desire)
A sudden desire
I wanted him to kiss me how
With open mouth, an open mouth
We keep our distance now
I wanna feel his hand go down
I try not to think about
What happened last night outside his house
Too far to go back now
Just wanna feel his hands go down
The lyrics of "Sudden Desire" by Hayley Williams explore the theme of longing and desire for a specific person. The singer expresses her strong desire for physical intimacy and a longing for a passionate kiss with someone. The repeated lines, "I wanted him to kiss me how, with open mouth and open mouth," suggest a desire for a deeply passionate and intense connection.
However, the lyrics also acknowledge a sense of distance and separation between the singer and the object of her desire. It seems that something has happened between them that has created a barrier, represented by the lines, "We keep our distance now" and "Too far to go back now." Despite this, the singer still yearns to feel the person's touch and hands on her, showing that the desire is still present and strong.
The lyrics also introduce a metaphor of an elephant, representing the singer's desire. The elephant symbolizes something large and powerful that the singer feels the need to handle carefully. It's "cruel to tame a thing that don't know its strength," implying that the singer feels a sense of danger and delicacy in fully embracing her desire. The elephant's presence acts as a constant reminder of the intensity of her desire and the potential consequences of giving in to it.
The lyrics also mention a painful reminder and fingerprints on the singer's skin. This suggests that there might have been a previous encounter or experience that had a lasting impact on her. The references to not looking into her eyes imply that the desire is overwhelming for her and she fears that it might be evident in her gaze.
In summary, "Sudden Desire" delves into the conflicting emotions of longing and distance, where the singer craves physical intimacy and affection while acknowledging the difficulties in pursuing those desires. The lyrics also highlight the metaphorical presence of an elephant, representing the intensity and potential danger of the desire. Overall, the song explores the complexities and struggles of desire and the lingering impact it can have on a person.
