Sugar on the rim
(Sugar on the rim)
Sugar on the rim
Sugar on the rim
Sugar on the rim
Sugar on the rim
When you pick my wounds?
'Cause I feel redeemed in spite of you
Had a life in hiding but a storm kept coming in
Could you be the silver lining like sugar on the rim?
You took me by
You took me by
You took me by surprise
You took me by
You took me by
You took me by surprise
Never felt this sensation
A kiss to every scar
It clips my expectation
Shock to my heart
Sugar on the, sugar on the
Sugar, sugar, on the rim, on the rim
I love to play with the shadows
In and out of the glow
I'm not afraid of the dark side
Just tell me things I don't know
Maybe we just had to feel it
So we know the difference
When we tell our glory story
We'll feel sweetness on our lips
You took me by
You took me by
You took me by surprise
Never felt this sensation
A kiss to every scar
It clips my expectation
Shock to my heart (sugar on the rim)
Never felt this sensation (sensation)
A kiss to every scar (scar)
Eclipse my expectation
Shock to my heart
Sugar on the rim
Sugar on the rim
Sugar on the rim
Sugar on the rim
Sugar on the rim
Sugar on the rim
Bitter if you walk away
Mmh, sweeter if you stay
Bitter if you ever walk away
'Cause it just gets sweeter by the day
Bitter if you walk away (sugar on the rim)
Mmh, sweeter if you stay
Bitter if you ever walk away (walk away)
'Cause it just gets sweeter by the day
Never felt this sensation
A kiss to every scar
It clips my expectation
Shock to my heart (sugar on the rim)
Never felt this sensation (sensation)
A kiss to every scar (scar)
Eclipse my expectation
Shock to my heart
Sugar on the, sugar on the
Sugar, sugar, on the rim, on the rim
In "Sugar On The Rim" by Hayley Williams, the lyrics seem to touch upon themes of redemption, healing, and finding solace in unexpected places. The repeated phrase "sugar on the rim" appears to be a metaphor for finding sweetness or comfort in the midst of pain or past mistakes.
The song begins with the question, "Do you taste old shame when you pick my wounds?" Here, the singer acknowledges the possibility that someone might judge or remind her of her past mistakes or regrets. However, despite this potential shame, she asserts that she feels redeemed and finds solace in spite of this person's presence. The storm metaphor suggests a turbulent period in her life, but she wonders if this person could be the silver lining that brings sweetness into her life, like sugar on the rim of a drink.
As the song progresses, there is a sense of surprise and unexpected emotions. The singer admits to never having felt this particular sensation before, with each scar being kissed and her expectations being surpassed. There is a contrast between the sweetness and shock that these experiences bring to her heart.
The chorus repeats the idea of sugar on the rim, suggesting that this sweetness is a constant presence. The bridge explores the importance of facing the shadows, embracing the darker aspects of life, and learning from them. The singer desires to be told things she doesn't know, suggesting a curiosity and willingness to grow.
The final verse emphasizes that bitterness will come if this person walks away, but staying would make things sweeter. The chorus is repeated once again, highlighting the juxtaposition between sensation and scar, and how expectations are surpassed and hearts are shocked.
Overall, "Sugar On The Rim" appears to be a song about finding unexpected comfort, redemption, and sweetness in the midst of past pain and mistakes. It encourages embracing the shadows and learning from them, ultimately finding a sense of healing and growth.
