Their debut album, Decadence, was released in August 2004 and featured the modest alternative radio hit "Beating Heart Baby". It was produced by Dan 'The Automator' Nakamura, famous for his work with groups including Gorillaz and Handsome Boy Modeling School. The band issued Popaganda in 2006, which featured the singles "Lying Through Your Teeth" and "Graduation Day"

I produced this song for Warners in 2005 - signed to Warners by Craig Aaronson (RIP). Daryl wrote this song on the way to the studio - it wasn't something we even knew about until he sang it over the phone (NOT AN IPHONE YET!!) to me. I immediately told Craig we were recording it. He thought I was crazy. But it was so obvious! The organ in the intro is a vintage Vox Continental and is throughout the song - a bit of retro there on which is now a retro song! The drummer sang the amazing harmonies in the chorus that are great secondary hooks. It was done really fast - at Bay 7 Studios in Valley Village

Howard Benson thanks so much for the insight man. I’d love to hear more about the songs recorded with Dan the Automator too. There seems to almost be two albums going on - the electronic side with guitars added and the more britpop/full band tracks, but it all works really well together - were you present for the whole thing? Aren’t the best songs generally written super quick and just flow out?! Great work man!

@@Martyncrockermusic I remixed and added production on some of the Dan songs. Some we just left. I did Dance Party and The Razor besides BHB.
The band wanted to experiment with more rock stuff so they brought me in.
