Juice
Headless Chickens Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Back in '77
When everything was so tall
I used to watch that tv show
That I now can't recall

This is the feeling
I taste in my dreams
When the child was a child
Was a child

Waking up in the darkness
I know I've felt this way before
Sunday morning children's show
Always wanting more

This is the feeling
I taste in my dreams

When the child was a child
Was a child

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Juice by Headless Chickens are filled with nostalgia and a sense of longing for one's childhood. The song starts with a reference to the year 1977, a year when the world was filled with towering structures and towering expectations. The nostalgic reference to that time sets the tone for the rest of the song. The lyrics then go on to describe the feeling that the singer remembers from their childhood. The singer cannot remember the television show they used to watch as a child, but they can remember the feeling that the show gave them. It was a feeling of innocence, wonder, and joy that one experiences only in childhood.

The second verse continues the nostalgia theme, describing waking up in darkness with a sense of deja vu. The singer remembers similar experiences from their childhood, specifically the feeling of watching a children's show on Sunday mornings and always wanting more. The final lines serve as a refrain, repeating the same lyrics as in the first verse. The lyrics "When the child was a child, Was a child" speaks to the universal experience of remembering one's childhood with a sense of longing for simpler times.

Overall, Juice is a song that captures the bittersweet feeling of nostalgia for one's childhood. The lyrics are simple, but they ring true for anyone who has ever looked back on their past with a sense of longing.

This song always gets right to my core somehow. Such a simple song, simple words - but absolutely epic. I might cry now, and I don't know why... this song is like that. It reminds me of something I've lost, but I can't remember what it is...

@koronutsz

Piginasack innocence lost or the knowing that those memories attached have finally vanished...

Wow what an amazing band Headless Chickens were. I still have my original Body Blow CD and I played that album to death. Soundtrack of my uni days. I saw them live with Frente in Sydney in maybe 92. So ahead of their time and so underrated.
