Tokyo
Headlights Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're walking,
Walking slow.
But you gotta move fast,
In Tokyo.

You can't believe your eyes,
You finally got here.
So many little red lights,
It's so alive here.

Another broken heart,
Another town you must take in stride.

If home is where the heart is,
Then home is here.
Because love ain't all you need,
You see my dear.

Another broken heart,
Another town you must take in stride.

Another broken heart,
Another town you must take in stride.

Overall Meaning

The opening verses of Headlights' song Tokyo depict a traveler who has finally reached the bustling city of Tokyo, only to feel overwhelmed by its fast pace. The lyrics suggest that they are walking slowly, but they need to move quickly in such a vibrant city. The imagery of the many little red lights indicates that the traveler is potentially experiencing culture shock, as they are surrounded by an unfamiliar environment.

The chorus alludes to the traveler's emotional journey, with the repetition of the phrase "another broken heart, another town you must take in stride." This suggests that the traveler is no stranger to heartbreak and is familiar with the experience of moving on from one place to another. Furthermore, the repetition reinforces the idea that in order to move on, the traveler must accept that heartbreak is a part of life, and they must be resilient and adaptable in order to continue on their journey.

In the final verse, the lyrics suggest that the traveler has found a sense of home in Tokyo, despite the initial unease. The line "if home is where the heart is, then home is here" implies that the traveler has found a sense of belonging in the city, even if it's temporary. The closing line of the chorus's repetition reinforces this idea - that the traveler has faced heartbreak before, but ultimately they will continue moving forward, taking life in stride.

I'm guessing the footage is of tokyo which matches the song title, but I don't think the visuals match the feel of the lyrics or music. It's an interesting concept over all but it could be pushed beyond.
