Long Way To Neverland
Headstones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Break it down with the tunnel lense
Got a long lense comin' round
With a bummed out girl scout
Lyin' southbound on the ground
Somethin' here I don't get
Somethin' here I don't see
Gold boy's coming down
And he's armed to the fuckin' teeth
It's a long way to neverland
And I'm dying to shoot 'em down
Keep 'em down for good
Yeah I might've lived dual lives
Here I am twenty years to day
Like I knew I would
Gettin' stoned on the hot sand
Put in a call to Coleen
Get a bottle to drop down
All the images from the street
And do yourself a favor
Let us smell fear when you run
Turn around and face it all
Just beat 'em to the fuckin' punch
It's a long way to neverland
And I'm dying to shoot 'em down
Keep 'em down for good
Yeah we might've lived dual lives
Here I am twenty years to day
Like I thought I would
It's a long way to neverland
And I'm dying to shoot 'em down
Keep 'em down for good (yeah)
Kneel down in the underground
Where the science fiction starts
Gonna have it all my way
So we're both done playin' parts
Got a soul in a strange hold
Poison teardrop in the sea
Grandstand and an hourglass
Came down to him and me
It's a long way to neverland
And I'm dying to shoot 'em down
Keep 'em down for good
Yeah we might've lived dual lives
Here I am twenty years to day
Like I knew I would
It's a long way to neverland
And I'm dying to shoot 'em down
Keep 'em down for good
Keep 'em down for good
Keep 'em down for good
Break it down with a tunnel lense
Got a long lense coming down
Got a bummed out girlscout
Lyin' southbound on the ground
Somethin' here I don't get
Somethin' here I don't see

Nothin' left to see here
But the waves out on the beach

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Headstones' song "Long Way to Neverland" are cryptic, but it seems to speak about a struggle to maintain a sense of self in the face of societal pressure to conform. The "gold boy" who is "coming down" and "armed to the teeth" could symbolize those who value material wealth and status over authenticity. The singer seems to be rejecting this path, preferring instead to "get stoned on the hot sand" and "put in a call to Coleen" to escape the pressures of modern life.

At the same time, the lyrics are also about confronting these pressures head-on. The lines, "Let us smell fear when you run / Turn around and face it all / Just beat 'em to the fuckin' punch" suggest a need to stand up for oneself and face one's fears, rather than running away or hiding from them. The repeated refrain of "it's a long way to neverland / and I'm dying to shoot 'em down / keep 'em down for good" further reinforces this idea of fighting back against external pressures and staying true to oneself.

Overall, the lyrics to "Long Way to Neverland" are both introspective and empowering, encouraging listeners to stay true to themselves and not be swayed by societal pressures. It's a reminder to be bold and authentic in the face of conformity.

I am from Australia, I heard this song when travelling through Thunder Bay, I have never understood why this song wasn't a world wide hit.

@marclebrun641

Proud Canadian here, these guys and of course the Hip are Canadian gold

@bikepacker9850

@@marclebrun641 Love the Hip...I have all their album's. They only had one minor hit in Australia, Fireworks. I got into them while living in Calgary when "Ahead by a Century" first came out. An amazing talent. Again, I'm not sure why they weren't popular world wide. I guess like Cold Chisel is quintessentially an Australian band, The Hip are quintessentially Canadian. Canada, like Australia does good "Pub Rock". 😁
