Angel Eyes
Healey Jeff Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Girl, you're looking fine tonight
And every guy has got you in his sight
What you're doing with a clown like me
Is surely one of life's little mysteries

So tonight I'll ask the stars above
"How did I ever win your love?"
What did I do?
What did I say
To turn your angel eyes my way?

Well, I'm the guy who never learned to dance
Never even got one second glance
Across a crowded room was close enough
I could look but I could never touch

So tonight I'll ask, the stars above
"How did I ever win your love?"
What did I do?
What did I say
To turn your angel eyes my way?

Don't anyone wake me
If it's just a dream
'Cause she's the best thing
Ever happened to me

All you fellows
You can look all you like
But this girl you see
She's leavin' here with me tonight

There's just one more thing I need to know
If this is love why does it scare me so?
It must be somethin' only you can see
'Cause girl I feel it when you look at me

So tonight I'll ask the stars above
"How did I ever win your love?"
What did I do?
What did I say
To turn your angel eyes my way?

Hey, hey, yeah, yeah, aw

Overall Meaning

In Healey Jeff's song "Angel Eyes," the singer addresses his lover, who is evidently attractive to other men. He notes the disparity between his own unimpressive appearance and her beauty, questioning why she has chosen to be with him instead of more conventionally desirable men. He is grateful to have her, but simultaneously unsure of how he managed to charm her in the first place. The singer reveals his self-doubts, noting that he is not a good dancer and never garners attention from women in social settings. However, he is determined to protect his relationship and make it work, musing on the prospect of true love and how it might affect him.

The song's lyrics suggest a sense of uncertainty and apprehension, as the singer is constantly questioning the nature of his relationship and how he fits into his partner's life. Despite his self-doubt, however, he clearly values and cherishes his partner, recognizing the deep connection between them. Through his questions and doubts, he conveys a sense of vulnerability and authenticity that many can relate to.

I was married 38 years & my husband used to sing this to me at night. He passed away in 2020 & I miss this.

So sorry for your loss. But what a wonderful man you had that sang this to you at night. I hope that gives you some peace and wonderful memories.

I'm so sorry to Toni & Donna. That's heartbreaking. I came to comment on here bcuz my husband & I had this as our wedding song & it's our 33rd anniversary. I'm so lucky to still have him. Five yrs ago he had a heart attack, they put a stent in. Then recently he has chest pain, burning, shortness of breath & he went to the hospital. They needed to put a new stent in, the old one was completely blocked & he was in the verge of another heart attack. Now he has a valve condition & will need a couple of valves replaced. I feel so bad for him. He's a great guy, an amazing husband, father, Grampa, son, brother, & friend. I am hoping to celebrate our 50th someday. 🙏💕😍💑👫💏

Beautiful song and a great voice. Those of you that have this kind of relationship, please thank God for it. You really don't know how extremely blessed you are.

So those who don't have it should curse god? 😂

@brandybarrett5991

I'm still hopeful I can find a love like this, but the people now and days just don't want this kind of love they just want to play.
