Love Alive
Heart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The sky was dark this morning
When I raised my head
I stood at the window
Darkness was my bane

Suddenly a sunbeam arch
Thrilled me to my weary heart
It was the prettiest thing I'd ever seen

I knew I had to keep my love
Keep my love alive
Keep my love keep my love live

Baby I want you to roll me
Hold me in your love
No more habits, promises and jive
Ever since I was a baby girl
Wanted one thing most in this world
It was to keep my love
Keep my love alive

I want to keep my love
Keep my love alive
Keep my love keep my love alive

You're up there under the spotlight
Your silver trophy shines
With all you got, my Lord
You must get high
You need a whole lot more than money
You need more than to survive

You gotta keep your love
Keep your love alive

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Heart's song Love Alive are full of metaphors and hidden meanings that speak to the human experience of darkness, hope, love and the desire to survive. The song starts with the singer awakening to a dark morning, feeling weighed down by the metaphorical darkness that surrounds her. However, she is suddenly hit by a sunbeam that arches into her vision and fills her heart with a sense of wonder and joy. The sunbeam represents hope and the possibility of light even in dark times, and it is this hope that fuels her desire to keep her love alive.

The lyrics then turn to another character, presumably a lover, who is being celebrated and honored for their achievements. However, the singer seems to suggest that this person needs more than just material success to truly be fulfilled. They need to keep their love alive too, which can't be attained by money or status alone. Love is essential for survival and for true happiness, and the singer will do whatever it takes to keep her love alive.

Overall, the lyrics of Love Alive speak to the human longing for hope, love, and connection, even in the darkest of times. The song uses powerful metaphors and imagery to capture these emotions and convey them to the listener, making it a classic rock song that has stood the test of time.

"Love Alive"

Recorded in March 1977 for the 'Little Queen' album released in May 1977..

Simply a powerful acoustic/mandolin and Double-Neck Guitar song.

Mike De Rossier is awesome on Drums here.

Ann Wilson ......... brilliant.

Can't get enough of this one. It's such a beautiful song. Between the beauty of Anne's voice and her crazy good looks, it's almost overwhelming. Then she plays the flute and I melt. 🫠 There's simply never been anyone like Anne Wilson. Absolutely adore her! ❤❤

Hard to believe this song is about 46 yrs old. I was a teenage when this came out, yet I will crank it in the car at age 58. Timeless.

It is hard to beleive that heart and bands of the same era will probably be no more at least for some time to come , the grunge years maybe being at least for now the end of true rock n roll but the seventies was a time when such a large pool of talent put out so much good music better than any era in music
