NANCY WILSON: The three of us continued to go on songwriting retreats to various places. One of those places was Ocean Shores, Washington, where a friend of our parents had a rustic cabin with no hot water, and plastic on the windows. We wrote this song with a wood fire burning in the background. We recorded the demo on a little battery-operated cassette recorder that wasn't working well. You had to keep your finger on the play button for playback, because it was partially broken. Sue's family owned this Hammond "Piper Auto Cord" keyboard system we nicknamed the "Fun Machine." It also had started breaking, and it made these trippy sounds when it did. It was a machine in distress, too.
ANN WILSON: We had driven there in a new Cadillac Michael Fisher and I had just bought. When we went to leave after that writing weekend, all the batteries in the fancy car were dead, and we had to call for a tow. My new car was yet another machine in distress.

Come again into my dream tonight
Don't fade away when the mornin' comes
Fadin' in the sun
Nada One, Nada One
Moon shone silver in your eye
Shown on my midnight blues from the sky
See the colors run
Nada One, Nada One
Mornin' come down on me
Wanderin' through the endless street
Nobody seein' where I've been
Nobody feels what I've done
Nada One, Nada One
Look inside I find
Your song flows around my mind
You are as real as I feel
You are the moon in my sun
Nada One, Nada One
The lyrics to Heart’s song “Nada One” are a romantic ode to a lover who has left but who remains ever-present in the singer’s dreams and memories. The first verse begins with “Fire eye flashin' bright,” signaling an intense longing and desire for this person to return to their dreams. She pleads for them not to fade away when the morning comes, knowing that reality may not be as kind as her dreams. The refrain of “Nada One, Nada One” echoes her sense of loss and feeling of being alone without her lover.
The second verse emphasizes the importance and influence this person has had on her life by comparing them to the moon, which “shone silver in your eye.” The use of color imagery throughout the song paints a vivid picture of the emotions and feelings the singer is experiencing. The love they shared was so strong that it painted the night with love until the sun came up. The refrain of “Nada One, Nada One” repeats again, emphasizing the singer’s sense of loss and longing for her lover.
The final verse paints a picture of the emptiness the singer feels without her lover. She is wandering through the endless streets, feeling lost and alone, with nobody who understands what she has been through. However, in the chorus, she finds solace in the memory of her lover. She imagines them being as real as she feels, and compares them to the moon in the sun. Overall, “Nada One” is a powerful, poetic meditation on the nature of love and loss.
