Collapse
Heart of a Coward Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Forever betrayed, we stand at the edge,
Ourselves are to blame, there’s no turning back.
We buy into this madness; waste every resource and remain mindless.
We stand and watch the world decay. Living a lie as we’re wasting away.
There’s no measure of control, No concept of what we hold.
We’ve bled our future dry, and there’s no one else left to blame.

In this mindless paradigm, We can only decline.
Our future’s being sold, by the hands of greed.
But what is the real cost?

Watch as we all collapse,
I tell you that we’ve lost our way,
Under the dying sun,
Watch as we all collapse.

Sedated masses swallow headlines over and over again.
So consumed in the mundane, there’s no way for us to maintain.
This vicious cycle is, spinning out of control.
We’re left dead behind the eyes and there’s no one else left to blame.

Staring at the end, a future obsolete.
We’re only living to consume, ourselves.

Overall Meaning

The Heart of a Coward's song "Collapse" speaks about a world on the edge of destruction due to the greed and mindlessness of humanity. The song is a reflection of the current state of the world, as we continue to ignore the warning signs of climate change and environmental destruction. The opening lyrics "Forever betrayed, we stand at the edge, Ourselves are to blame, there’s no turning back" suggest that we have reached the point of no return, and the consequences of our actions will have severe repercussions for future generations.

As the song progresses, the lyrics highlight how we are blindly buying into the madness, wasting resources, and living a lie as we watch the world decay. It is a reminder that we have the power to take control of our future, but we have bled it dry. The chorus serves as a warning, saying that we are already collapsing and have lost our way. The sedated masses are falling into a vicious cycle, spinning out of control, and we are left dead behind the eyes with no one else to blame.

Whoever they got to replace Jamie was always going to have a tough time of it... He was/is one of the greatest metal vocalists I've ever heard.

He was incredible live, his ability to switch between punishing lows and beautiful, powerful cleans was unbelievable.

Having said that this new guy isn't half bad, his screams need more power and some more diversity but his cleans are pretty awesome.

It's good to have you guys back.

I found out about these guys literally 3 days ago, heard them opening for Monuments; and the truth is that this vocalist and the rest of the band sound 10x better live. I am trawling youtube for anything of them live with the new songs and I cannot find it. I dislike this album's studio production, live they are absolutely spectacular!

i think each sylosis album had its own style. Conclusion was more straight forward thrash with a hint of metalcore with those melodic choruses and the odd breakdown. Edge of the earth felt more like more of a technical and progressive sound. Monolith was very clean production wise and stadium-esque sounding. Then we had dormant heart, which sounded really mature. Some of the melodies and riffs sounded so well crafted and nurtured. We even had some clean vocal songs at the end of the album. Josh seems like a perfectionist who wants to keep moving the goal posts with the overall sound. Absolutely top notch band.

@SoldOut X Honestly dude I think Edge of the Earth was their peak musically. It's an absolute masterpiece, Josh's vocals stand out to me a lot, they're just very different. His highs are insane and his lows/mids are like nothing I've heard before, not necessarily in a way that they're better, but just how they sound. It's hard to describe

Jamie did a great job on Conclusion but I thought he suited HoaC much more (and improved tremendously as a vocalist since joining)

Andy Quinton Yeah, Jamie is a fucking beast

Couldn’t agree more, I discovered HOAC because of Sylosis and freaking loved Jamie Graham vocals; so clear, powerful and melodic. IMO he is definitely one of the greatest metal singer out there. I wish Jamie will somehow miss singing then form/join another band soon. fingers crossed

You know, there is just no way to get Jamie back, he left the band, it was his decision, I immediately understood, that there would never be someone as tough of a vocalist as him, but what is better? No HOAC at all or HOAC with another vocalist, who may not sound like Jamie, but still has some skills. So please stop blaming the band, this song isn't bad, the vocals aren't bad. Don't compare him with Jamie, and just enjoy their music!

Mister Vulgar

Its impossible to not compare with Jamie, when he's the replacement

Kaan you've smashed it, and the song is also excellent guys. Such an epic chorus and the breakdown crushes. Nice one!

Man its so depressing to see jamie graham leaving the band. I've been following that guy since he was in sylosis years and years ago when conclusion of an age came out. The guy is a godly vocalist and sylosis took a hit when they lost him but then I stumbled onto heart of a coward because of jamie and I was so stoked to see everything they've accomplished. Now I see he's leaving heart of a coward and maybe metal altogether and all I can say is its not going to be the same without those amazing vocals...FUCK
