It's Me
Hearts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Two good friends
Friday night
A chick flick in the VCR
I watched you
Roll your eyes
And knew I'd have to twist your arm when you said
"You expect a guy like me to sit and watch this mushy stuff!
They always fall in love when they first meet
That never happens to folks like us."
But I just sat there and grinned
Tried not to laugh out loud cause I remember when

It happened to me just a few months back
In the middle of the week and just like that
Got weak in the knees
A little short of breath
Man I had it bad and boy I bet
It would blow your mind if you only knew
It happened to me
When I met you

I heard you say
You're not like me
You don't believe in fairy tales
I bit my tongue
Didn't speak
I sat there thinking to myself that
I used to feel the way you feel
I thought
Love was fake and make-believe right up until

It happened to me just a few months back
In the middle of the week and just like that
Got weak in the knees
A little short of breath
Man I had it bad and boy I bet
It would blow your mind if you only knew
It happened to me
When I met you

I used to feel the way you feel
I thought
Love was fake and make-believe right up until

It happened to me just a few months back
In the middle of the week and just like that
Got weak in the knees
A little short of breath
Man I had it bad and boy I bet
It would blow your mind if you only knew
It happened to me
When I met you
When I met you
You
When I met you

You
When I met you

Overall Meaning

The song "It's Me" by Heart is an ode to falling in love unexpectedly. It tells the story of two friends watching a romantic movie, where the guy comments that love at first sight never happens in real life. However, the female singer recalls her own experience of falling in love just a few months ago, feeling weak in the knees and short of breath when she met the person who would change her beliefs about love. She doesn't speak up when her friend says he doesn't believe in fairy tales because she used to feel the same way, but now she knows that love can happen unexpectedly, even to skeptics like themselves. The chorus repeats that it happened to her when she met him, and the song ends with her recalling the moment she fell in love.

This song is relatable to anyone who has experienced love when they least expected it. It's also a reminder that love can happen to anyone and that people's beliefs about it can change. The lyrics are simple, yet powerful in conveying the message of the unpredictable nature of love. The song has a slow, melodic tune that complements the romantic theme.

LETRA:
Is everything alright?
I just called to say
How lost I feel
without you
Miles away
I really can't believe I'm here
And how I still care about you.

Hearts can break and never mend together
Love can fade away
Hearts can cry
When love won't stay forever
Hearts can be that way.

Is everything the same?
Do you ever think of me
And how we loved one another
Will you change your mind
Will you want me back again
Or have you found yourself a new lover?
Hearts can break and never mend together
Love can fade away
Hearts can cry
When love won't stay forever
Hearts can be that way.

Is everything ok?
I just thought I'd write a song
To tell the world
How much I miss you
'Cause each and every day
I think of all the words I never said
And all the chances that I had to.

Hearts can break and never mend together
Love can fade away
Hearts could cry
When love won't stay forever
Hearts can be that way

Hearts can be that way
Hearts can be
Is everything alright?.

My cousin, John Hug, who worked for Jim Ed Norman, produced this song. Besides producing, John was an excellent guitarist touring with many big name artists and bands. John passed a couple years ago. One night when this song first began to chart, John and I went flying in a Cherokee Arrow, two young men with our whole lives ahead. Rest in peace, John.
