super soul sista
super soul sista

tell u bout a lady, i said she taste like sweet potato pie
she can drive u crazy yeah, u know the girl don't even have to try
with that sexy kinda feel yeah, when she's clingin' close to me
hot and heavy breathin' well, you know that's how luv is suppose to be
she's a super soul sista, no man can resist her
(?) she knows a million ways of messin' up my life
and i just don't want to lose her, make her cry
or abuse her
(?) without one good love it's hard to fly so hard to fly

sista soul, sista soul sista
Yeah...

super soul sista, fine fine fine lady
super soul sista, ooh she's drivin'me crazy
super soul sista, ooh wee fine little lady
super soul sista, bah bah bah

baby makes me boogie
i said she knows witch way to turn me on
she can really groove me yeah, and she'll always be my number one

said she's a super soul sista, no man can resist her
(?) she knows a million ways of messin' up my life
and i just don't want to lose her, make her cry

or abuse her
(?) cause that one good love it's hard to find so hard to find

Overall Meaning

The Heatwave’s song Super Soul Sista is an ode to a woman who has captivated the singer’s heart, body, and soul. The song is all about this woman and how she affects the singer’s life. The opening lines perfectly describe the woman’s irresistible charm with the simile “she tastes like sweet potato pie”, which is a soulful and southern delicacy that leaves a lasting pleasant after-taste. The lyrics suggest that this woman does not even try to attract others, yet she drives men crazy with her sexy and sultry nature. The lines “when she’s clinging close to me, hot and heavy breathing, well you know that’s how love is supposed to be” speaks to the sensual passion between the two lovers.

The chorus makes it clear that this woman is a “super soul sista” – one of the finest ladies out there – who has the power to mess up the singer’s life in a million ways, and he just does not want to lose her. The lyrics suggest that this woman has been abused in the past, and the singer does not want to be the one who adds to her pain. The line “without one good love, it’s hard to fly” implies that the woman needs love to succeed in life. Overall, the song is an ode to this beautiful woman who has touched the singer’s heart, and he wants to keep her in his life, no matter what it takes.

Yep, love them, used to play "Taxman," "Central Heating" & I think another that I can't think of, loved playing them especially being the bass player, in Australia in the 1970`s, what fun also with playing Commodores Rufus/Chaka, Ohio Players, Temptations, Earth Wind & Fire & more funky stuff I can't think of at moment but if there was a popular new funky radio song we liked we would play till it got a bit stale, like Carwash, Disco Inferno, Hot Stuff etc., we kicked arse with a classy band we used to sometimes call the music `sophisticated funk` plus also played small amount of blues, rock & roll & reggae, what fun times :-)
