1. A Heavy Metal group composed of current and former members of Black Sabbath.
2. An electronic group from Contraseña Records who have released the Alive & Kicking (Single).
Heaven and Hell were a music collaboration featuring current Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler along with former members Ronnie James Dio (RIP) and Vinny Appice. Founding member Iommi decided to name the group Heaven and Hell as the original lineup of Black Sabbath (featuring Butler, Iommi, Bill Ward and Ozzy Osbourne) is still active but on hiatus. [Please note: Tony Iommi owns all rights to the name "Black Sabbath" and as such can do with it as he sees fit. Heaven & Hell came into existence due to the band not wanting to play songs such as Iron Man and Paranoid, which would be expected of them if they toured as Black Sabbath. It has nothing to do with Ozzy Osbourne saying they couldn't use the Sabbath name.] Ward was originally part of the Heaven and Hell line-up, but it was announced on the fan-run Black Sabbath website that he was standing aside for Appice.
The possibility of a reunion of the lineup which created the Black Sabbath album Heaven and Hell in 1980 was first announced on the Spanish site Rafabasa on September 28, 2006; however with Appice in place of Ward the line-up is now that which recorded the 1981 album Mob Rules. Dio had previously announced that he and Iommi had written a new track for a proposed Black Sabbath box set consisting of music from the two periods in which he was present in the band. This set, Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, is a single-CD release featuring three new tracks, 'Shadow Of The Wind', 'The Devil Cried' and 'Ear In The Wall'.
The reunion was officially confirmed by an announcement on Tony Iommi's official website.
None of the new tracks feature keyboards but Scott Warren of Dio is the project's touring keyboardist.
The group did a world tour in 2007, and released a live CD/DVD recorded in New York called Live From Radio City Music Hall
Heaven & Hell's first full-length studio album is called The Devil You Know and was released by Rhino on April 28, 2009. The band embark on another world tour beginning in May 2009.
The band had several festival dates lined up for 2010 despite singer Ronnie James Dio's diagnosis with stomach cancer in December 2009. All of these dates were cancelled in April 2010 due to Dio's ill health, although it was not apparent whether he was suffering from a setback or just hadn't recovered as quickly as everyone had hoped. However, on 16th May 2010 an official announcement from his wife and manager, Wendy Dio, shocked music fans the world over announcing her husband's death from stomach cancer. He was 67 years old.
The Mob Rules
Heaven & Hell Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That something's coming to call
Death and darkness are rushing forward
To take a bite from the wall, oh
You've nothing to say
They're breaking away
If you listen to fools
The mob rules
Kill the spirit and you'll be blinded,
The end is always the same
Play with fire, you burn your fingers
And lose your hold of the flame, oh
It's over, it's done
The end is begun
If you listen to fools
The mob rules
You've nothing to say
Oh, they're breaking away
If you listen to fools
Break the circle and stop the movement,
The wheel is thrown to the ground
Just remember it might start rolling
And take you right back around
You're all fools!
The mob rules!
The verse "Close the city and tell the people that something's coming to call, death and darkness are rushing forward to take a bite from the wall" sets a very ominous tone for the song. It seems to suggest that some sort of impending doom is on the horizon, and the people of the city are powerless to stop it. The use of the phrase "take a bite from the wall" is particularly interesting, as it implies that something is trying to invade or destroy what the people have built.
The chorus, "You've nothing to say, they're breaking away, if you listen to fools, the mob rules" seems to be a warning against blindly following others, especially those who may not have the best intentions. The image of "the mob" is used to represent a group of people who may act impulsively or irrationally, with potentially disastrous consequences. The line "kill the spirit and you'll be blinded, the end is always the same" reinforces this idea, suggesting that when people are too easily swayed by others, they lose their sense of individuality and the ability to think for themselves.
The final verse "Break the circle and stop the movement, the wheel is thrown to the ground, just remember it might start rolling and take you right back around, you're all fools, the mob rules" highlights the cyclical nature of history and the dangers of falling into the same patterns over and over again. The repetition of "the mob rules" throughout the song drives home the idea that blindly following others can lead to destructive and dangerous behavior.

That scream at the beginning is flat-out jaw-dropping. 65 years old, and he makes 99% of all metal singers sound like rank amateurs. The man was born to sing, just like Buddy Rich was born to play drums and Jimi Hendrix was born to play guitar. We won't see his like for a LONG time. I feel so privileged that I got to see him live six times (twice solo, and four times with Heaven and Hell). I just wish I'd met him.
@danielkhmelnitsky4911
My dad saw him twice with Heaven and Hell, and got a chance to meet him along with Iommi and Geezer. He says he was a pretty cool guy.
@maldicientin
And dont forget: he was already stricken with cancer...

I had the happiness of seing H&H one year before Dio died, in Rio de Janeiro.
When he did this exact screaming, i got stunned. What an amazing singer he was.
@abgRoni
@David Topchiev true..this is the one performance with that pitch..i never came across any other performance with that high scream...

@David Topchiev Same... I'm stunned. Was there some kind of playback technical enhancement going on?

Geezer Butler is a MONSTER bass player.
Got tired just watching the energy he puts into playing here.
@AttosLins
At 0:20 you can see that the bass is basically an extension of his body. He's so familiar with it and puts so little effort into playing that anyone would think it's easy.
@TheHulk2008
Christopher Lee said that this man was one of his favorite singers. No joke. He has damn good taste 😃
