Combat
Heaven Shall Burn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Welcome to a world of pain
This is the day of your conviction,
Mortification
Dragged away from home on blood red nights
Slave to a brutal system forevermore
Forevermore
You are an orphan now
Adopted by the beast of war
The end of all your childhood dreams has come

[Chorus]
No more will you meet a smiling face
Now peace has left your sleep forever
There are no arms to hold you
There are no arms to wipe your tears

Constrained and forced to kill
These cruelties will haunt you
A life in combat
You'll feel you're inane, you're inner combat
And lies will form the future
You will forget your wishes
And nothing to embrace
But the rifle in your hands
Forevermore
You are an orphan now
Adopted
By the beast of war
The end of all your
Childhood dreams has come
A life of combat forevermore

[Chorus]

There are no arms to wipe your tears away
Yeah
There are no arms to hold you
Peace has left your sleep

Overall Meaning

Heaven Shall Burn's song "Combat" is a powerful commentary on the devastating impact of war, particularly on young soldiers who are forced to leave behind their homes, families, and childhood dreams to become instruments of violence. The opening lines of the song, "Welcome to a world of pain, this is the day of your conviction, mortification," set the tone for the lyrics that follow, which describe the experience of being torn away from home on "blood red nights" and conscripted into a "brutal system" that demands obedience and kills empathy.

The chorus of the song repeats the heartbreaking refrain that there are "no arms to hold you" and "no arms to wipe your tears" in a world where peace has left your sleep forever. The verses describe the inner turmoil of being forced to kill, haunted by the cruelties of war, and losing touch with your own dreams and desires. The final line of the song echoes the opening, emphasizing the idea that the young soldier has lost everything: "A life of combat forevermore."

The lyrics of "Combat" blend a sense of anger and frustration about the horrors of war with a deep sympathy for those who are caught up in it. The song acknowledges the tremendous sacrifice made by soldiers while also calling for an end to the cycle of violence that perpetuates war.

This lyric remainds me to a mexican colombian movie, "voces inocentes" a really hard and sad movie.

Saddest lyrics I've ever read but I don't understand why I felt so much rage instead of pain...

Like honestly, this video is one of the most powerful things I've seen. Everything is so horrible, disastrous, and hopeless.... it's gut wrenching. What gets me every time is the end, when they imagine that everything is okay, and there's color and happiness.... damn man, it hurts me to see such a vivid and active representation of what's occurring in our world, especially when we're so privileged in the 1st world...
