Mouse in a Hole
Heavy Stereo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Living in a house with your mates and a mouse
That runs around the kitchen.
To living in a flat with your girl and a cat.
Her pictures fixtures and fittings.
Blocked any feelings that I'd found
In the rain old town … London
There I'd go man burning slow man,
Missing more than hitting.
Sinking low in a caffeine glow
And daytime television.
Any fear I'd hide behind
Like a mouse in a hole
All tunnel vision. Singing…
Is this my life?
Then it's killing me somewhere
It's killing me somewhere
Yeah?
Like one big dream that worked out real.
It came right at me wailing.
It ram down my street.
Scraping its teeth along my mental railings.
Saying waking up time
Waking up time.
Remember this thing so well
"This is the here and all you've got now"

So ready or not, go get your something.
Singing…

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Heavy Stereo's song "Mouse in a Hole" describe a transition from living with roommates and a mouse in a shared house to living with a partner and a cat in a more structured and domestic environment. However, despite the appearance of stability, the singer still struggles with feelings of anxiety and fear, represented by the image of a mouse hiding in a hole. The lyrics suggest that the shift in living situation has not resolved these underlying emotional issues, as the singer sinks into a cycle of caffeine-fueled lethargy and daytime television.

The chorus of the song poses the question, "Is this my life?" which implies a sense of dissatisfaction or unease with the current state of affairs. The following line, "Then it's killing me somewhere," further suggests that the singer feels trapped or suffocated by his circumstances. However, there is also a hint of optimism in the song's closing lines, which urge the listener to "remember this thing so well" and to seize the moment by "going to get your something."

Overall, "Mouse in a Hole" captures a moment of transition and uncertainty, as the singer navigates the shift from youth to adulthood, from communal living to domesticity, and from aimlessness to purpose.

Gem Archer was and will be an AWESOME musician! He was the calmness that kept Oasis together... what a freaking man! I adore him, his coolness and humility! :D

Gem❤️ no sabía que cantaba pero tiene un gran estilo, debió tener más fama, hay canciones buenas❤️❤️❤️❤️

A hugely underrated band who probably would have gone on to bigger things had Gem not joined Oasis, but I guess he would have been stupid to turn down that opportunity! As it stands, Heavy Stereo produced some great material but never quite got the attention they deserved - I guess their glam rock sound (particularly their earlier stuff) didn't quite fit in with the Britpop sound of the time.

Big New Prinz

To be fair, thats not true. Heavy Stereo's best years were about 3 years before he joined Oasis and even then they barely sold any records and they were going absolutely nowhere by 1999/2000.
