@@kindaweirdedits4896 I think your idea of comparing numbers is silly. So, they killed 2000 at Pearl Harbor. Would you have an equal exchange system? In a war? That is ridiculous. They killed thousands of our men in the pacific theater.

Are you to be a stoic philosopher lost in apathy while bullets and bombs fly over your head? War is hell. You tend to forget, that the Japanese Government are the people. Those people fully supported their policy of war and atrocity. And only because they lost the war do they now regret (some) of what they did. Your idea of "innocent people" doesn't include hostiles supporting the destruction of your own people and government by any means needed. Abiding and helping the enemy. Japan at the time, wasn't a pacifist culture.

You can't throw pearls before swine and expect the same in return.

Frankly, killing them instantly is merciful compared to other forms of killing. Nobody knew of the side effects of Nuclear weapons at the time. Don't believe me? We had plans in place to move our own troops through radioactive atomic bombings while the Soviet Army was retreating.

As for your arguments about skin melting. Yes, I would watch. Because in war, the only thing that matters is victory. If you can't take a little bloody nose then perhaps you should crawl back under your bed. You may have to do things in the future that will make you go insane and live with that burden for the rest of your life for the greater good. Despite it being horrid in nature.

There is nothing shallow about my argument if Japan had nukes. They would have used them on us to achieve their goals. And their results of killing, raping, and pillaging in Manchuria and China prove it. They didn't have our moral compass at the time. Nor were there any Geneva conventions agreed upon at the time.

Japan was a genocidal empire out for glory. They had to be put down the hard way.

@DrVornhoff

The original estimate of invasion casualties was 20-25,000 - by 1949 it was close to a million. That is fiction. Remember Truman said "god gave us the bomb". That is not only fiction it is insane. In my opinion a good plan to limit further destruction would not include obliterating several square miles of civilians. I do not accept "norms" for war. If only we had followed the plan with Russia - but we broke our agreement re Hiroshima. We then tried to take over the world with our new little toy (Admiral Halsey's term) by having a monopoly. Russia was our ally but by 1949? Citizens, priests, Strom Thurmond and others were on TV advocating the destruction of Russia and others.
It is interesting to read the list of Admirals and Generals who were absolutely against dropping that bomb, and what some of them said at the time about its true purpose/use:

Admiral William D. Leahy, the President's Chief of Staff: "...The use of this barbarous weapon at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan. The Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender. . ." 1950 memoir

Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet: "...The atomic bomb played no decisive part, from a purely military standpoint, in the defeat of Japan..." 10/45

Admiral William F. Halsey, Jr., Commander U.S. Third Fleet: "...The first atomic bomb was an unnecessary experiment...It was a mistake to ever drop it. . . . [the scientists] had this toy and they wanted to try it out, so they dropped it. . . . It killed a lot of Japanese, but the Japanese had put out a lot of peace feelers through Russia long before..." 1946

Henry H. "Hap" Arnold, Commanding general of the U.S. Army Air Forces: "...The Japanese position was hopeless even before the first atomic bomb fell, because the Japanese had lost control of their own air..." 8/45

Major General Curtis E. LeMay: "...said flatly at one press conference that the atomic bomb "had nothing to do with the end of the war." He said the war would have been over in two weeks without the use of the atomic bomb or the Russian entry into the war..."
"LeMay: The war would have been over in two weeks without the Russians entering and without the atomic bomb.
The Press: You mean that, sir? Without the Russians and the atomic bomb?
LeMay: The atomic bomb had nothing to do with the end of the war at all." 9/45

Brigadier Gen. Carter W. Clarke: "...we brought them [the Japanese] down to an abject surrender through the accelerated sinking of their merchant marine and hunger alone, and when we didn't need to do it, and we knew we didn't need to do it, and they knew that we knew we didn't need to do it, we used them as an experiment for two atomic bombs." 1959

PS - My Grandfather worked at Tinian and had a B-29 named for him. He went through Hiroshima afterward so I have talked with Grandparents...and Japanese.

@someone-hz8tj

@Hentai is an Art Yea Japan was really stubborn and started the war but why didn't they bomb them from the beginning or after they saw too many people were dying?

They did it to save lives but they could have saved more by bombing them from the beginning but they bombed a city and a military base. Why the city? (yea ik they didn't give up but still, they could have bombed one more base and threaten to bomb a city or something.)

It's not always about getting revenge on the other country, many lives lost for no reason (from the US and Japan) just because nobody really cared unless they won the war

EDIT : I know most these things sound unrealistic like to tell them to leave the cities because obviously japan would expect it but I mean other ways like bombing another base and threatening to bomb a random city if they didn't surrender (there were more options)

@ghoulunathics

And here people, we see a victim of governmental brainwash at it's best. take a close look on how it repeats few well taught double think fallacies before silently vanishing from the comment section in inner discomfort when someone actually proved that his whole view on the subject was a fallacy from the start.

What a surprise that even when trying to search for alternative opinions on the atomic bombings, youtube only recommends official media channels and channels that support the mainstream view on this war crime.

The Us could have dropped a warning nuke to countryside in Japan to make them surrender, but instead they went straight for the civilians and massacred them.

This abomination in our history doesn't leave me alone. Meanwhile every single bomb ever dropped in a city is a terrible war crime, the two atomic bombs used against Japan and the fact that they are still taught as righteous act of peace, instead of atrocities that proved that the second world war was a clash between two evil sides just makes me want to puke.

if you want to end a war you offer peace - you don't bomb innocent civilians until the enemy accepts unconditional surrender. Don't you think?

of course nuking a countryside would have resulted in millions of innocent wild animals dying, which would be a horrible crime against this beautiful planet we live in. so did the united states consider the japanese civilians even less worthy than animals, because they chose this instead of that, or...?

@silverhawkscape2677

They would have died in a Horrific way regardless.

Options aside from the bomb was a Blockade that would have caused mass Starvation.

A land Invasion of Japan which would be just as Horrific.

Agreeing to the Imperialist Japan's conditions which included allowing them to keep some of their invaded Territory.

There was the Soviets but after Manchuria, they didn't exactly have the navy to launch the required Naval landing on Japan.

From the moment this was dropped it became an arms race. Crazy how many billions of currency have been poured into developing such weapons with absolutely zero intent to use them but just for the sake of being able to say "if you push your button, I'll push mine and then we're both toast!"

They will all use them very soon. Welcome to 2022!! Thank N a t o
