Hedge & Donna Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One day I'll follow the sea
It's calling me
It's calling me
Like a om shanti

One day I'll follow the sea
My heart is an ocean
My soul is the sea
The waves are my potion
You can follow me
You can follow me

I want to follow the sea
A lonely to strong
A lonely to strong
Like a sailor song
I want to follow the sea

Right now
I follow the sea
Alone on my own
Alone on my own
I will come back home
Right now
I follow the sea

My heart is an ocean
My soul is the sea
The waves are my potion
You can follow me

My world is an ocean
I'm floating I'm free
The sea-fish in motion
You can follow me

You can follow me
You can follow me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Follow" by Hedge and Donna depict the longing and yearning to follow the sea. The singer expresses her deep connection and desire to return to the sea one day, as if it were calling her like a chant or mantra. She compares the sea to an "om shanti," which is a common Sanskrit phrase used in meditation to find inner peace and connect to the universe.

The second verse further emphasizes the singer's love for the sea and how it resonates within her heart and soul. She sees the waves as a "potion," which suggests that the sea has a transformative and healing power. The chorus invites others to follow her on this journey, perhaps as a way to share the beauty and freedom of the sea with them. The third verse acknowledges the present moment, where the singer is currently following the sea alone, but she is also confident that she will come back home.

The song is a poignant ode to the ocean and its profound emotional and spiritual significance to the singer. The lyrics reflect a yearning for adventure, freedom, and self-discovery by being in tune with nature. It's a beautifully written piece that encourages listeners to embrace their dreams and follow their hearts to find their true selves within.

I discovered Hedge & Donna when I was in college and have never stopped loving them. My vinyl is old and worn and was committed to storage in the last millennium. I have long hoped that their albums would be reissued on CD so that I could again hear out loud the songs that have for decades echoed occasionally in my mind as memories. I am now happily surprised to find Hedge & Donna on You Tube. This song and "Wings" are my favourite H&D tunes. Does anyone have a copy of "Wings" to upload?

@lallenak

I saw them live once a long time ago. I forgot how beautiful they sound.

@DScottDay

Fans of Hedge & Donna: There is an original musical called “The Geeze & Me” opening in San Diego March 31st. 2017. It runs for 5 weeks, Hedge wrote the songs and co-wrote the book with Nancy Locke Capers. And…Methuselah said “It’s simply the greatest musical in the last 800 years!”

@alanpeterman

I've loved their music for nearly 40 years and have found few duos with such sweet sound. I have all the albums and am glad to see they have made the jump to the digital world where they will be able please folks forever.

And about a month ago, I found another duo that at least have a few songs that are as good as these. The group is called "Good Harvest" and if you like H&D try them. I recommend starting with Clocks or Woodstock...

Thanks
