I Want You To Want Me
Hedge and Donna Lyrics

"I Don't Want to Know"
Hey!
I know where you live, yea
And I want to live there too
I drive buy almost everyday, its not even really on my way
When am I gonna get to see you?
It won't be misunderstood
It won't do you any good
Think I'm not the one you could
But I know that you would
I don't want to know if you don't want me, no
(Don't want me, no)
I don't want to know if you don't want me, no
Hey!
I have a shirt that belongs to you
And I use it to guess all the things you do
I already met your mom and dad
Said I'm the best one you never had
And I think you should really reconsider
It won't be misunderstood
It won't do you any good
Think I'm not the one you could
But I know that you would
I don't want to know if you don't want me, no
(Don't want me, no)
I don't want to know if you don't want me, no
I watched you through the window last night
And I thought I saw a girl in the candlelight
You think that's fair after all I've done?
Restraining orders one by one
And I sure hope that was your sister
I guess you misunderstood
Didn't do you any good
That you thought I never could
Now you know that I would
Now you know that I would
Now you know that I Would
I don't want to know if you don't want me, no

(Don't want me, no)
I don't want to know if you don't want me, no

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Hedge and Donna's song I Want You to Want Me sound like a plea from an obsessive stalker to their object of desire. The first verse opens with the stalker admitting that they know where the object of their affection lives and they wish they could live there too. The stalker then reveals that they drive by their house almost every day, even when it's not on their way, in the hopes of catching a glimpse of them. The stalker is desperate to see the person they are fixated on and is hoping that their behavior won’t be misunderstood or go unnoticed.

Bless you, brother. These are some beautiful songs and so beautifully sung. We go back to the Whittier College days.

I remember Hedge fondly from the Bifrost Bridge days, and I recall how embarrassed I was when I stupidly spilled all the herb out of a loosely rolled "cigarette" he was passing around.... He handled the loss like the kind gentleman he was...... Oh the days.....(1966)....

Thank you too. I have been looking for this solo version for a long time. I have a poor cassette dub from the 1970s, so this is quite a treat indeed! The song was included as an LP track on his 1973 album Capers And Carson on Janus. The Lp version is shorter (2:36) and features Donna Carson's vocals too.

Thanks, I've changed it to the correct title.
