Following the release of their seventh studio album Cageless (2017) and its accompanying tour, current members of Hedley faced accusations of sexual misconduct with young women over the course of their career. After Hoggard faced additional accusations of sexual assault by two women, the group confirmed they would enter an indefinite hiatus.
On July 23, 2018, Hoggard was charged with one count of Sexual Interference and two counts of Sexual Assault Causing Bodily Harm. On June 5, 2022, Hoggard was convicted of sexually assaulting the Ottawa woman.
On November 8, 2018, former drummer of the band Chris Crippin spoke out against Hoggard's behaviour during his time with the band. Crippin stated he was routinely called a "f*ggot" and was told to "shut the fuck up" when he tried to speak out. In a separate interview in July 2019, Crippin said that Hoggard was "extremely rude" and it wasn't behaviour he wanted to be around.
On October 20, 2022, Hedley frontman Jacob Hoggard was sentenced to 5 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting an Ottawa woman.

Bright red Jimmy Choo's
Where you from girl, tell me where you from girl?
Knock, knock, open the door
What you are wound up for?
You got the whole world girl
You got the whole world
You might got that money but you missing what you can't buy
Sweet dreams are sugar and spice
But dreaming's for sleeping and we're staying up all night
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Let your hair down, and get down
Let your hair down, and get down
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Let your hair down, and get down
Let your hair down, and get down
Damn God did good with you
But what good would telling you do?
Where you from girl, tell me where you from girl?
Let me take you out tonight
I'll help you lose your mind
We got the whole world girl
We got the whole world
Young thing, been blessed your whole life
You might got that money but you missing what you can't buy
Sweet dreams are sugar and spice
But dreaming's for sleeping and we're staying up all night
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Let your hair down, and get down
Let your hair down, and get down
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Let your hair down, and get down
Let your hair down, and get down
Let your hair down, and get down
Let your hair down, and get down
Let your hair down, and get down
Let your hair down, and get down
Young thing, been blessed your whole life
You might got that money but you missing what you can't buy
Sweet dreams are sugar and spice
But dreaming's for sleeping and we're staying up all night
Young thing, been blessed your whole life
You might got that money but you missing what you can't buy
Sweet dreams are sugar and spice
But dreaming's for sleeping and we're staying up all night
(I'm talking to you, young thing)
Let your hair down, and get down (I'm talking to you, young thing)
(I'm talking to you, young thing)
Let your hair down, and get down
Let your hair down, and get down
The song "Dreaming's For Sleeping" by Hedley is a high-energy and upbeat track that tells the story of a young woman who seems to have it all, but is missing something that money can't buy. The opening lines describe the girl as wandering around with the blues, wearing bright red Jimmy Choo's, and the singer is trying to get to know her and understand where she's from. He encourages her to let her hair down and forget about her worries and responsibilities for a night. The chorus emphasizes the idea that dreaming is for sleeping, but the singer and his companion are going to stay up all night and party instead.
The lyrics highlight the theme of material wealth versus emotional fulfillment. The young woman might have plenty of money and material possessions, but she is missing something much more important - happiness and a sense of purpose. The singer is trying to show her that she can find these things in experiences and relationships, rather than material things. The use of "sweet dreams are sugar and spice, but dreaming's for sleeping" is a catchy way to get this point across.
One interpretation of the song is that it's about living life to the fullest and not taking anything for granted. We all have responsibilities and obligations, but it's important to let loose and have fun sometimes. The singer is encouraging the young woman, and by extension, the listener, to make the most of every moment and not let the pressures of life drag them down.
