Following the release of their seventh studio album Cageless (2017) and its accompanying tour, current members of Hedley faced accusations of sexual misconduct with young women over the course of their career. After Hoggard faced additional accusations of sexual assault by two women, the group confirmed they would enter an indefinite hiatus.
On July 23, 2018, Hoggard was charged with one count of Sexual Interference and two counts of Sexual Assault Causing Bodily Harm. On June 5, 2022, Hoggard was convicted of sexually assaulting the Ottawa woman.
On November 8, 2018, former drummer of the band Chris Crippin spoke out against Hoggard's behaviour during his time with the band. Crippin stated he was routinely called a "f*ggot" and was told to "shut the fuck up" when he tried to speak out. In a separate interview in July 2019, Crippin said that Hoggard was "extremely rude" and it wasn't behaviour he wanted to be around.
On October 20, 2022, Hedley frontman Jacob Hoggard was sentenced to 5 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting an Ottawa woman.

That I'm losing my mind 'cause I think that I just fell in love with a girl
It's the same time as last year and the colors never fade
And I lie to myself like the first time I told you I'm not afraid
A thousand miles a minute standing still
My every move your good looks can kill
If you're not going to do something stupid, oh well
If I do something foolish, if you're brave enough to stare
If it takes me the whole night to tell you my thoughts then I'm going nowhere
A thousand miles a minute standing still
My every move your good looks can kill
If you're not going to do something stupid, oh well
I will, I will, I will
Ooh I will, ooh I will
When Sunday turns to Monday and your hand starts to shake at the sound
Am I crazy?
Did you notice the way that everything's frozen in the moment?
We're going
A thousand miles a minute standing still
My every move your good looks can kill
If you're not going to do something stupid, oh well
I will, I will, I will, oh
A thousand miles a minute standing still
My every move your good looks can kill
If you're not going to do something stupid, oh well
I will, I will, I will, oh oh
I will
Ooh, I will
The song "I" by Hedley talks about the complexities of falling in love and being afraid of confessing it. The singer is torn between keeping his feelings to himself and potentially losing the girl, or confessing them and risking rejection or having his secret exposed. The lyrics suggest that the singer is struggling with his emotions, as he may be losing his mind by thinking about the girl, but he lies to himself that he is not afraid. The repetition of "a thousand miles a minute standing still" emphasizes the feeling of being stuck between two choices and not really knowing what to do.
The chorus proclaims that the singer will do something foolish if the girl is not going to take the risk, implying that he may make a move or confess his feelings despite the potential consequences. Interestingly, the bridge shifts the focus to the girl and asks if she has noticed the tension between them. The final lines, "oh oh, I will," show determination and a willingness to take a risk for love.
Overall, "I" is a relatable and thought-provoking song about the struggles of falling in love and taking risks in relationships.
