Kunze was born on 30 November 1956 in the refugee camp Espelkamp near Minden. His family had been expelled from Guben (Niederlausitz, now partially Poland). His father, an officer for the Waffen-SS and long-time prisoner of war, had returned only in the same year.
In the 1980s, he rose to prominence as a singer. HRK, as he is often called, has also written books, and has translated musicals into German language.

Irene wildner: Ganz abgesehen davon, welche Meinung ich zu diesem Thema habe, das ist hier vollkommen egal, und dass dein Deutsch ja auch nicht gerade das beste ist: Du hast das ganze Lied aus dem Jahre 1999, in dem es um Krieg geht, missverstanden. Das Lied kam damals heraus, als wir den Kosovokrieg hatten. Und hier sagt Heinz Rudolf Kunze auch etwas dazu:

Heinz Rudolf Kunze ist nicht fremdenfeindlich, ganz im Gegenteil. Ich denke zudem, es ist lächerlich, wenn man jetzt überall, sogar bei diesem Lied, über das Thema Zuwanderung diskutieren muss.
