Day In Day Out
Helen Forrest / Artie Shaw & His Orchestra Lyrics

The same old hoodoo follows me about
The same old pounding in my heart whenever I think of you
And, darling, I think of you
Day in and day out
Day out, day in
I needn't tell you how my days begin
One possibility in view
That possibility of maybe seeing you
Come rain, come shine
I meet you and to me the day is fine
Then I kiss your lips
And the pounding becomes
The ocean's roar
A thousand drums
Can't you see it's love
Can there be any doubt
When there it is
Day in, day out
The song "Day In Day Out" by Helen Forrest/Artie Shaw & His Orchestra is a love ballad that speaks about an enduring feeling of love that the singer experiences every day. The first line "Day in, day out" signifies the repetitive nature of her life, and how she is unable to escape the feeling of love that follows her constantly. The lyric "The same old hoodoo follows me about" suggests that this feeling of love is almost a curse that she can't shake off. Despite this, she admits that thinking of her lover still makes her heart pound with passion.
The second paragraph focuses on how the singer's day begins with the thought of seeing her lover. The lyric "When I awake, I awaken with a tingle" highlights the excitement and anticipation that this possibility brings. The idea of seeing her lover bolsters her spirits, and the singer believes that anything can happen when she's with them. This love has become a significant factor in her life and the source of joy that she's been waiting for. She compares the feeling of being with her lover to the sound of a thousand drums and the roar of the ocean, emphasizing the depth of her love.
In conclusion, "Day In Day Out" is an intense love song, describing a love that has taken over the singer's life. The repetition of the phrase "day in and day out" and the reference to a hoodoo creates an aura of impotence, while the constant pounding in her heart shows that the love is no less intense. The song is a testament to the enduring nature of love and the joy that it brings.

There is only one word that can describe this recording; sublime. Ms Forrest uses her warmth and brilliant intonation to give meaning to the wonderful lyrics of this song. Virtually all the other vocalists go for the Jazz shtick and end up lost in the Andes. As for Artie...he will always remembered as one of the greatest musicians of the 20th Century.
